Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The City of Peace
2 The vision that Isaiah(A) son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
2 In(B) the last days(C)
the mountain of the Lord’s house(D) will be established
at the top of the mountains
and will be raised above the hills.
All nations will stream to it,(E)
3 and many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob.(F)
He will teach us about his ways
so that we may walk in his paths.”
For instruction will go out of Zion
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He will settle disputes among the nations
and provide arbitration for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plows
and their spears into pruning knives.(G)
Nation will not take up the sword against nation,
and they will never again train for war.(H)
The Day of the Lord
5 House of Jacob,
come and let’s walk in the Lord’s light.(I)
Psalm 122
A Prayer for Jerusalem
A song of ascents. Of David.
1 I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let’s go to the house of the Lord.”(A)
2 Our feet were standing
within your gates, Jerusalem(B)—
3 Jerusalem, built as a city should be,
solidly united,(C)
4 where the tribes, the Lord’s tribes, go up
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.(D)
(This is an ordinance for Israel.(E))
5 There, thrones for judgment are placed,
thrones of the house of David.(F)
6 Pray for the well-being[a] of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure;(G)
7 may there be peace within your walls,
security within your fortresses.”(H)
8 Because of my brothers and friends,
I will say, “May peace be in you.”[b](I)
9 Because of the house of the Lord our God,
I will pursue your prosperity.(J)
Put On Christ
11 Besides this, since you know the time, it is already the hour(A) for you[a] to wake up from sleep,(B) because now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.(C) 12 The night is nearly over, and the day is near;(D) so let us discard the deeds of darkness(E) and put on the armor of light.(F) 13 Let us walk with decency,(G) as in the daytime: not in carousing and drunkenness;(H) not in sexual impurity and promiscuity; not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ,(I) and make no provision for the flesh to gratify its desires.(J)
No One Knows the Day or Hour
36 “Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels of heaven nor the Son[a] —except the Father alone.(A) 37 As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 38 For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark.(B) 39 They didn’t know until the flood came and swept them all away. This is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding grain with a hand mill; one will be taken and one left.(C) 42 Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day[b] your Lord is coming.(D) 43 But know this: If the homeowner had known what time[c] the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.(E) 44 This is why you are also to be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.(F)
