Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
A Song of Praise
12 On that day you will say:
“I will praise You, Lord,
although You were angry with me.
Your anger has turned away,
and You have had compassion(A) on me.
2 Indeed, God is my salvation;
I will trust Him and not be afraid,
for Yah, the Lord,
is my strength and my song.
He has become my salvation.”(B)
3 You will joyfully draw water(C)
from the springs of salvation,
4 and on that day you will say:
“Give thanks to Yahweh; proclaim His name!
Celebrate His works among the peoples.(D)
Declare that His name is exalted.
5 Sing to Yahweh, for He has done glorious things.(E)
Let this be known throughout the earth.
6 Cry out and sing, citizen of Zion,
for the Holy One of Israel(F) is among you
in His greatness.”
15 Truth is missing,
and whoever turns from evil is plundered.
The Lord saw that there was no justice,
and He was offended.
16 He saw that there was no man—
He was amazed that there was no one interceding;(A)
so His own arm brought salvation,
and His own righteousness supported Him.
17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
and a helmet of salvation on His head;(B)
He put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
and He wrapped Himself in zeal as in a cloak.(C)
18 So He will repay according to their deeds:(D)
fury to His enemies,
retribution to His foes,
and He will repay the coastlands.
19 They will fear the name of Yahweh in the west
and His glory in the east;(E)
for He will come like a rushing stream(F)
driven by the wind of the Lord.
20 “The Redeemer(G) will come to Zion,
and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression.”(H)
This is the Lord’s declaration.
21 “As for Me, this is My covenant with them,”(I) says the Lord: “My Spirit who is on you, and My words that I have put in your mouth,(J) will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouth of your children, or from the mouth of your children’s children, from now on and forever,” says the Lord.
The Coming of the Kingdom
20 Being(A) asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God will come,(B) He answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with something observable; 21 no one will say,[a] ‘Look here!’ or ‘There!’ For you see, the kingdom of God is among you.”
22 Then He told the disciples: “The days are coming(C) when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you won’t see it.(D) 23 They will say to you,(E) ‘Look there!’ or ‘Look here!’ Don’t follow or run after them.(F) 24 For as the lightning flashes from horizon to horizon and lights up the sky, so the Son of Man will be in His day.(G) 25 But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.(H)
26 “Just as it was in the days of Noah,(I) so it will be in the days of the Son of Man: 27 People went on eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage(J) until the day Noah boarded the ark,(K) and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot:(L) People went on eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building. 29 But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed(M) them all. 30 It(N) will be like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed.(O) 31 On that day, a man on the housetop, whose belongings are in the house, must not come down to get them. Likewise the man who is in the field must not turn back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife!(P) 33 Whoever tries to make his life secure[b][c] will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.(Q) 34 I tell you, on that night(R) two will be in one bed: One will be taken and the other will be left. 35 Two women will be grinding grain together: One will be taken and the other left. [36 Two will be in a field: One will be taken, and the other will be left.]”[d]
37 “Where, Lord?”(S) they asked Him.
He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there also the vultures(T) will be gathered.”
