Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 14

Human Wickedness[a](A)

14 (B)Fools say to themselves,
    “There is no God!”
They are all corrupt,
    and they have done terrible things;
there is no one who does what is right.

The Lord looks down from heaven at us humans
to see if there are any who are wise,
    any who worship him.
But they have all gone wrong;
    they are all equally bad.
Not one of them does what is right,
    not a single one.

“Don't they know?” asks the Lord.
    “Are all these evildoers ignorant?
They live by robbing my people,
and they never pray to me.”

But then they will be terrified,
for God is with those who obey him.
Evildoers frustrate the plans of the humble,
but the Lord is their protection.

How I pray that victory
will come to Israel from Zion.
How happy the people of Israel will be
when the Lord makes them prosperous again!

Jeremiah 4:1-10

A Call to Repentance

The Lord says, “People of Israel, if you want to turn, then turn back to me. If you are faithful to me and remove the idols I hate, it will be right for you to swear by my name. Then[a] all the nations will ask me to bless them, and they will praise me.”

(A)The Lord says to the people of Judah and Jerusalem, “Plow up your unplowed fields; do not plant your seeds among thorns. Keep your covenant with me, your Lord, and dedicate yourselves to me, you people of Judah and Jerusalem. If you don't, my anger will burn like fire because of the evil things you have done. It will burn, and there will be no one to put it out.”

Judah Is Threatened with Invasion

Blow the trumpet throughout the land!
    Shout loud and clear!
Tell the people of Judah and Jerusalem
to run to the fortified cities.
Point the way to Zion!
    Run for safety! Don't delay!
The Lord is bringing disaster
and great destruction from the north.
Like a lion coming from its hiding place,
a destroyer of nations has set out.
He is coming to destroy Judah.
The cities of Judah will be left in ruins,
and no one will live in them.
So put on sackcloth, and weep and wail
because the fierce anger of the Lord
has not turned away from Judah.

The Lord said, “On that day kings and officials will lose their courage; priests will be shocked and prophets will be astonished.”

10 Then I said, “Sovereign Lord, you have completely deceived the people of Jerusalem! You have said there would be peace, but a sword is at their throats.”

2 Peter 2:1-10

False Teachers

False prophets appeared in the past among the people, and in the same way false teachers will appear among you. They will bring in destructive, untrue doctrines, and will deny the Master who redeemed them, and so they will bring upon themselves sudden destruction. Even so, many will follow their immoral ways; and because of what they do, others will speak evil of the Way of truth. In their greed these false teachers will make a profit out of telling you made-up stories. For a long time now their Judge has been ready, and their Destroyer has been wide awake!

God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell, where they are kept chained in darkness,[a] waiting for the Day of Judgment. (A)God did not spare the ancient world, but brought the flood on the world of godless people; the only ones he saved were Noah, who preached righteousness, and seven other people. (B)God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, destroying them with fire, and made them an example of what will happen to the godless. (C)He rescued Lot, a good man, who was distressed by the immoral conduct of lawless people. That good man lived among them, and day after day he suffered agony as he saw and heard their evil actions. And so the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials and how to keep the wicked under punishment for the Day of Judgment, 10 especially those who follow their filthy bodily lusts and despise God's authority.

These false teachers are bold and arrogant, and show no respect for the glorious beings above; instead, they insult them.
