Psalm 80

A Prayer for Restoration

For the choir director: according to “The Lilies.”[a] A testimony of Asaph.(A) A psalm.

Listen, Shepherd of Israel,
who leads Joseph like a flock;(B)
You who sit enthroned on the cherubim,(C)
rise up(D)
before Ephraim,
Benjamin, and Manasseh.[b](E)
Rally Your power and come to save us.(F)

Psalm 80:8-19

You uprooted a vine from Egypt;
You drove out the nations and planted it.(A)
You cleared a place for it;
it took root and filled the land.(B)
10 The mountains were covered by its shade,
and the mighty cedars[a] with its branches.(C)
11 It sent out sprouts toward the Sea[b]
and shoots toward the River.[c](D)

12 Why have You broken down its walls
so that all who pass by pick its fruit?(E)
13 The boar from the forest tears it
and creatures of the field feed on it.(F)
14 Return, God of Hosts.(G)
Look down from heaven and see;
take care of this vine,
15 the root[d] Your right hand has planted,
the shoot[e] that You made strong for Yourself.(H)
16 It was cut down and burned up;[f]
they[g] perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.(I)
17 Let Your hand be with the man at Your right hand,
with the son of man
You have made strong for Yourself.(J)
18 Then we will not turn away from You;
revive us, and we will call on Your name.(K)
19 Restore us, Yahweh, the God of Hosts;(L)
look on us with favor, and we will be saved.(M)

Isaiah 3:18-4:6

18 On that day(A) the Lord will strip their finery: ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents,(B) 19 pendants, bracelets, veils, 20 headdresses, ankle jewelry, sashes, perfume bottles, amulets,(C) 21 signet rings, nose rings,(D) 22 festive robes, capes, cloaks, purses, 23 garments, linen clothes, turbans, and veils.

24 Instead of perfume there will be a stench;
instead of a belt, a rope;
instead of beautifully styled hair,(E) baldness;(F)
instead of fine clothes, sackcloth;(G)
instead of beauty, branding.[a]
25 Your men will fall by the sword,
your warriors in battle.
26 Then her gates(H) will lament and mourn;
deserted, she will sit on the ground.(I)
On that day seven women
will seize one man,(J) saying,
“We will eat our own bread
and provide our own clothing.
Just let us be called by your name.
Take away our disgrace.”(K)

Zion’s Future Glory

On that day the Branch of[b] the Lord will be beautiful and glorious,(L) and the fruit of the land(M) will be the pride and glory(N) of Israel’s survivors.(O) Whoever remains in Zion and whoever is left in Jerusalem(P) will be called holy(Q)—all in Jerusalem who are destined to live(R) when the Lord has washed away the filth(S) of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodguilt(T) from the heart of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment(U) and a spirit of burning.(V) Then the Lord will create(W) a cloud of smoke by day(X) and a glowing flame of fire by night over the entire site of Mount Zion and over its assemblies. For there will be a canopy over all the glory,[c] and there will be a booth for shade from heat by day, and a refuge and shelter from storm and rain.(Y)

Matthew 24:15-27

The Great Tribulation

15 “So when you see the abomination that causes desolation,[a][b] spoken of by the prophet Daniel,(A) standing in the holy place”(B) (let the reader understand[c]), 16 “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains! 17 A man on the housetop[d] must not come down to get things out of his house.(C) 18 And a man in the field must not go back to get his clothes. 19 Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days! 20 Pray that your escape may not be in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For at that time there will be great tribulation,(D) the kind that hasn’t taken place from the beginning of the world until now and never will again! 22 Unless those days were limited, no one would[e] survive.[f] But those days will be limited because of the elect.(E)

23 “If anyone tells you then, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’(F) or, ‘Over here!’ do not believe it!(G) 24 False messiahs[g] and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray,(H) if possible, even the elect. 25 Take note: I have told you in advance. 26 So if they tell you, ‘Look, He’s in the wilderness!’ don’t go out; ‘Look, He’s in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.(I)
