Psalm 82

Unjust Judgments Rebuked.

A Psalm of Asaph.

82 God takes His (A)position in [a]His assembly;
He (B)judges in the midst of the (C)gods.
How long will you (D)judge unjustly
And (E)show partiality to the wicked? Selah
(F)Vindicate the weak and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.
(G)Rescue the weak and needy;
Save them from the hand of the wicked.

They (H)do not know nor do they understand;
They (I)walk around in darkness;
All the (J)foundations of the earth are shaken.
[b]I (K)said, “You are gods,
And all of you are (L)sons of the Most High.
Nevertheless (M)you will die like men,
And fall like (N)one of the princes.”
(O)Arise, God, (P)judge the earth!
For You (Q)possess all the nations.

Amos 2:4-11

Judgment on Judah

This is what the Lord says:
“For three offenses of (A)Judah, and for four,
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they (B)rejected the Law of the Lord
And have not kept His statutes;
Their [a](C)lies also have led them astray,
Those which their (D)fathers followed.
So I will (E)send fire upon Judah,
And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”

Judgment on Israel

This is what the Lord says:
“For three offenses of (F)Israel, and for four,
I will not revoke its punishment,
Because they (G)sell the righteous for [b]money,
And the needy for a pair of sandals.
These who [c]trample the head of the (H)helpless to the dust of the earth
Also (I)divert the way of the humble;
And a (J)man and his father [d]resort to the same [e]girl
So as to profane My holy name.
And on garments (K)seized as pledges they stretch out beside (L)every altar,
And in the house of their God they (M)drink the wine of those who have been fined.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the (N)Amorite before them,
[f]Though his (O)height was like the height of cedars
And he was as strong as the oaks;
I also destroyed his (P)fruit above and his roots below.
10 And it was I who (Q)brought you up from the land of Egypt,
And led you in the wilderness for (R)forty years
So that you might take possession of the land of the (S)Amorite.
11 Then I (T)raised up some of your sons to be prophets,
And some of your young men to be (U)Nazirites.
Is this not so, you sons of Israel?” declares the Lord.

Acts 7:9-16

“The patriarchs (A)became jealous of Joseph and sold him into Egypt. Yet God was with him, 10 and rescued him from all his afflictions, and (B)granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and his entire household.

11 “Now (C)a famine came over all Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction with it, and our fathers [a]could find no food. 12 But (D)when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers there the first time. 13 And on the second visit, (E)Joseph [b]made himself known to his brothers, and (F)Joseph’s family was revealed to Pharaoh. 14 Then (G)Joseph sent word and invited his father Jacob and all his relatives to come to him, (H)seventy-five [c](I)people in all. 15 And (J)Jacob went down to Egypt, and he and our fathers died there. 16 And they were brought back from there to [d](K)Shechem and laid in the tomb which Abraham had purchased for a sum of money from the sons of [e]Hamor in [f]Shechem.
