Psalm 77:1-2

Comfort in Trouble from Recalling God’s Mighty Deeds.

For the music director; [a]according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

77 My voice rises to God, and I will (A)cry aloud;
My voice rises to God, and He will listen to me.
In the (B)day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
(C)In the night my (D)hand was stretched out and did not grow weary;
My soul (E)refused to be comforted.

Psalm 77:11-20

11 I shall remember the (A)deeds of [a]the Lord;
I will certainly (B)remember Your wonders of old.
12 I will (C)meditate on all Your work,
And on Your deeds with thanksgiving.
13 Your way, God, is (D)holy;
(E)What god is great like our God?
14 You are the (F)God who works wonders;
You have (G)made known Your strength among the peoples.
15 By Your [b]power You have (H)redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and (I)Joseph. Selah

16 The (J)waters saw You, God;
The waters saw You, they were in anguish;
The ocean depths also trembled.
17 The (K)clouds poured out water;
The skies [c](L)sounded out;
Your (M)arrows [d]flashed here and there.
18 The (N)sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
The (O)lightning lit up the world;
The (P)earth trembled and shook.
19 Your (Q)way was in the sea
And Your paths in the mighty waters,
And Your footprints were not known.
20 You (R)led Your people like a flock
By the hand of (S)Moses and Aaron.

2 Kings 1:13-18

13 So the king (A)again sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty men. When the third captain of fifty went up, he came and bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and begged him and said to him, “You man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my [a]life be precious in your sight.” 15 And (B)the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; (C)do not be afraid of him.” So he got up and went down with him to the king. 16 Then he said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Since you have sent messengers (D)to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore [b]you will not get down from the bed upon which you have lain, but you shall certainly die.’”

Jehoram Reigns over Israel

17 So Ahaziah died in accordance with the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. And since he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place (E)in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. 18 Now as for the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

2 Kings 2:3-5

Then (A)the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel went out to Elisha and said to him, “Are you aware that the Lord will take away your master from over [a]you today?” And he said, “Yes, I am aware; say nothing about it.”

And Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please (B)stay here, for the Lord has sent me to (C)Jericho.” But he said, “(D)As surely as the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. Then (E)the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho approached Elisha and said to him, “(F)Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over [b]you today?” And he [c]answered, “Yes, I know; say nothing about it.”

Luke 9:21-27

21 But He [a](A)warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, 22 (B)saying, (C)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”

23 And He was saying to them all, (D)If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For (E)whoever wants to save his [b]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [c]life for My sake, this is the one who will save it. 25 For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but (F)loses or forfeits himself? 26 (G)For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels. 27 But I say to you truthfully, (H)there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
