¹⁶ Thus saith the Lord, who made a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters.

¹⁷ Who brought forth the chariot and the horse, the army and the strong: they lay down to sleep together, and they shall not rise again: they are broken as flax, and are extinct.

¹⁸ Remember not former things, and look not on things of old.

¹⁹ Behold I do new things, and now they shall spring forth, verily you shall know them: I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

²⁰ The beast of the field shall glorify me, the dragons and the ostriches: because I have given waters in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, to my chosen.

²¹ This people have I formed for myself, they shall shew forth my praise.

126 Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it. Unless the Lord keep the city, he watcheth in vain that keepeth it.

² It is vain for you to rise before light, rise ye after you have sitten, you that eat the bread of sorrow. When he shall give sleep to his beloved,

³ Behold the inheritance of the Lord are children: the reward, the fruit of the womb.

⁴ As arrows in the hand of the mighty, so the children of them that have been shaken.

⁵ Blessed is the man that hath filled the desire with them; he shall not be confounded when he shall speak to his enemies in the gate.

⁴ Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other thinketh he may have confidence in the flesh, I more,

⁵ Being circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; according to the law, a Pharisee:

⁶ According to zeal, persecuting the church of God; according to the justice that is in the law, conversing without blame.

⁷ But the things that were gain to me, the same I have counted loss for Christ.

⁸ Furthermore I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ:

⁹ And may be found in him, not having my justice, which is of the law, but that which is of the faith of Christ Jesus, which is of God, justice in faith:

¹⁰ That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death,

¹¹ If by any means I may attain to the resurrection which is from the dead.

¹² Not as though I has already attained, or were already perfect; but I follow after, if I may by any means apprehend, wherein I am also apprehended by Christ Jesus.

¹³ Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do: forgetting the things that are behind, and stretching forth myself to those that are before,

¹⁴ I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ Jesus.

12 Jesus therefore, six days before the pasch, came to Bethania, where Lazarus had been dead, whom Jesus raised to life.

² And they made him a supper there: and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that were at table with him.

³ Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

⁴ Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said:

⁵ Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

⁶ Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the purse, carried the things that were put therein.

⁷ Jesus therefore said: Let her alone, that she may keep it against the day of my burial.

⁸ For the poor you have always with you; but me you have not always.
