Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
11 Malicious witnesses come forward;
they question me about things I do not know.(A)
12 They repay me evil for good,
making me desolate.(B)
13 Yet when they were sick,
my clothing was sackcloth;
I humbled myself with fasting,
and my prayer was genuine.[a](C)
14 I went about grieving as if for my friend or brother;
I was bowed down with grief,
like one mourning a mother.(D)
15 But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee;
they gathered against me.
Assailants I did not know
tore at me and did not stop.(E)
16 With godless mockery[b]
they gnashed their teeth at me.(F)
17 Lord, how long will You look on?(G)
Rescue my life from their ravages,
my only one from the young lions.(H)
18 I will praise You in the great congregation;
I will exalt You among many people.(I)
19 Do not let my deceitful enemies rejoice over me;
do not let those who hate me without cause(J)
look at me maliciously.(K)
20 For they do not speak in friendly ways,
but contrive deceitful schemes[c]
against those who live peacefully in the land.(L)
21 They open their mouths wide against me and say,
“Aha, aha! We saw it!”[d](M)
22 You saw it, Lord; do not be silent.
Lord, do not be far from me.(N)
23 Wake up and rise to my defense,
to my cause, my God and my Lord!(O)
24 Vindicate me, Lord my God,
in keeping with Your righteousness,
and do not let them rejoice over me.(P)
25 Do not let them say in their hearts,
“Aha! Just what we wanted.”
Do not let them say,
“We have swallowed him up!”(Q)
26 Let those who rejoice at my misfortune
be disgraced and humiliated;
let those who exalt themselves over me
be clothed with shame and reproach.(R)
The Sabbath Command
35 Moses assembled the entire Israelite community and said to them, “These are the things that the Lord has commanded you to do:(A) 2 For six days work is to be done, but on the seventh day you are to have a holy day, a Sabbath(B) of complete rest to the Lord. Anyone who does work on it must be executed. 3 Do not light a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day.”(C)
Building the Tabernacle
4 Then Moses said to the entire Israelite community, “This is what the Lord has commanded: 5 Take(D) up an offering among you for the Lord. Let everyone whose heart is willing bring this as the Lord’s offering: gold, silver, and bronze; 6 blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; fine linen and goat hair; 7 ram skins dyed red and manatee skins;[a] acacia wood; 8 oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; 9 and onyx with gemstones to mount on the ephod and breastpiece.
10 “Let all the skilled craftsmen[b] among you come and make everything that the Lord has commanded:(E) 11 the tabernacle—its tent and covering, its clasps and planks, its crossbars, its posts and bases; 12 the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, and the veil for the screen; 13 the table with its poles, all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence; 14 the lampstand for light with its utensils and lamps as well as the oil for the light; 15 the altar of incense with its poles; the anointing oil and the fragrant incense; the entryway screen for the entrance to the tabernacle; 16 the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grate, its poles, and all its utensils; the basin with its stand; 17 the hangings of the courtyard, its posts and bases, and the screen for the gate of the courtyard; 18 the tent pegs for the tabernacle and the tent pegs for the courtyard, along with their ropes; 19 and the specially woven[c] garments for ministering in the sanctuary—the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests.”(F)
20 Then the entire Israelite community left Moses’ presence. 21 Everyone whose heart was moved and whose spirit prompted him came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the tent of meeting, for all its services, and for the holy garments.(G) 22 Both men and women came; all who had willing hearts brought brooches, earrings, rings, necklaces, and all kinds of gold jewelry—everyone who waved a presentation offering of gold to the Lord. 23 Everyone who had in his possession blue, purple, or scarlet yarn,(H) fine linen or goat hair, ram skins dyed red or manatee skins,[d] brought them. 24 Everyone making an offering of silver or bronze brought it as a contribution to the Lord. Everyone who possessed acacia wood useful for any task in the work brought it. 25 Every skilled[e] woman(I) spun yarn with her hands and brought it: blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and fine linen. 26 And all the women whose hearts were moved spun the goat hair by virtue of their skill. 27 The leaders(J) brought onyx and gemstones to mount on the ephod and breastpiece, 28 as well as the spice(K) and oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense. 29 So the Israelites brought a freewill offering to the Lord, all the men and women whose hearts prompted them to bring something for all the work that the Lord, through Moses, had commanded to be done.(L)
Peter’s Vision
9 The(A) next day, as they were traveling and nearing the city, Peter went up to pray on the housetop(B) about noon.[a] 10 Then he became hungry and wanted to eat, but while they were preparing something, he went into a visionary state. 11 He saw heaven opened(C) and an object that resembled a large sheet coming down, being lowered by its four corners to the earth. 12 In it were all the four-footed animals and reptiles of the earth, and the birds of the sky. 13 Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat!”
14 “No, Lord!” Peter said. “For I have never eaten anything common[b] and ritually unclean!”(D)
15 Again, a second time, a voice said to him, “What God has made clean, you must not call common.”(E) 16 This happened three times, and then the object was taken up into heaven.
Peter Visits Cornelius
17 While Peter was deeply perplexed about what the vision he had seen might mean, the men who had been sent by Cornelius, having asked directions to Simon’s house, stood at the gate. 18 They called out, asking if Simon, who was also named Peter, was lodging there.
19 While Peter was thinking about the vision, the Spirit told him, “Three men are here looking for you.(F) 20 Get up, go downstairs, and accompany them with no doubts at all, because I have sent them.”(G)
21 Then Peter went down to the men and said, “Here I am, the one you’re looking for. What is the reason you’re here?”
22 They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who has a good reputation with the whole Jewish nation, was divinely directed by a holy angel to call you to his house and to hear a message from you.”(H) 23 Peter then invited them in and gave them lodging.
The next day he got up and set out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went with him.(I)
