29 A psalm of a canticle, at the dedication of David's house.

² I will extol thee, O Lord, for thou hast upheld me: and hast not made my enemies to rejoice over me.

³ O Lord my God, I have cried to thee, and then hast healed me.

⁴ Thou hast brought forth, O Lord, my soul from hell: thou hast saved me from them that go down into the pit.

⁵ Sing to the Lord, O ye his saints: and give praise to the memory of his holiness.

⁶ For wrath is in his indignation; and life in his good will. In the evening weeping shall have place, and in the morning gladness.

⁷ And in my abundance I said: I shall never be moved.

⁸ O Lord, in thy favour, thou gavest strength to my beauty. Thou turnedst away thy face from me, and I became troubled.

⁹ To thee, O Lord, will I cry: and I will make supplication to my God.

¹⁰ What profit is there in my blood, whilst I go down to corruption? Shall dust confess to thee, or declare thy truth?

¹¹ The Lord hath heard, and hath had mercy on me: the Lord became my helper.

¹² Thou hast turned for me my mourning into joy: thou hast cut my sackcloth, and hast compassed me with gladness:

¹³ To the end that my glory may sing to thee, and I may not regret: O Lord my God, I will give praise to thee for ever.

3 All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven.

² A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

³ A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to destroy, and a time to build.

⁴ A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.

⁵ A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.

⁶ A time to get, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.

⁷ A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.

⁸ A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.

⁹ What hath man more of his labour?

¹⁰ I have seen the trouble, which God hath given the sons of men to be exercised in it.

¹¹ He hath made all things good in their time, and hath delivered the world to their consideration, so that man cannot find out the work which God hath made from the beginning to the end.

¹² And I have known that there was no better thing than to rejoice, and to do well in this life.

¹³ For every man that eateth and drinketh, and seeth good of his labour, this is the gift of God.

¹⁴ I have learned that all the works which God hath made, continue for ever: we cannot add any thing, nor take away from those things which God hath made that he may be feared.

¹⁵ That which hath been made, the same continueth: the things that shall be, have already been: and God restoreth that which is past.

¹¹ For what man knoweth the things of a man, but the spirit of a man that is in him? So the things also that are of God no man knoweth, but the Spirit of God.

¹² Now we have received not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit that is of God; that we may know the things that are given us from God.

¹³ Which things also we speak, not in the learned words of human wisdom; but in the doctrine of the Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

¹⁴ But the sensual man perceiveth not these things that are of the Spirit of God; for it is foolishness to him, and he cannot understand, because it is spiritually examined.

¹⁵ But the spiritual man judgeth all things; and he himself is judged of no man.

¹⁶ For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that we may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
