Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 3

(A)Morning Prayer for Help[a]

I have so many enemies, Lord,
so many who turn against me!
They talk about me and say,
    “God will not help him.”

But you, O Lord, are always my shield from danger;
    you give me victory
    and restore my courage.
I call to the Lord for help,
and from his sacred hill[b] he answers me.

I lie down and sleep,
and all night long the Lord protects me.
I am not afraid of the thousands of enemies
who surround me on every side.

Come, Lord! Save me, my God!
You punish all my enemies
and leave them powerless to harm me.
Victory comes from the Lord
    may he bless his people.

1 Samuel 3:19-4:2

19 As Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him and made come true everything that Samuel said. 20 So all the people of Israel, from one end of the country to the other, knew that Samuel was indeed a prophet of the Lord. 21 The Lord continued to reveal himself at Shiloh, where he had appeared to Samuel and had spoken to him. And when Samuel spoke, all Israel listened.

The Capture of the Covenant Box

At that time the Philistines gathered to go to war against Israel, so[a] the Israelites set out to fight them. The Israelites set up their camp at Ebenezer and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines attacked, and after fierce fighting they defeated the Israelites and killed about four thousand men on the battlefield.

Hebrews 10:26-31

26 For there is no longer any sacrifice that will take away sins if we purposely go on sinning after the truth has been made known to us. 27 (A)Instead, all that is left is to wait in fear for the coming Judgment and the fierce fire which will destroy those who oppose God! 28 (B)Anyone who disobeys the Law of Moses is put to death without any mercy when judged guilty from the evidence of two or more witnesses. 29 (C)What, then, of those who despise the Son of God? who treat as a cheap thing the blood of God's covenant which purified them from sin? who insult the Spirit of grace? Just think how much worse is the punishment they will deserve! 30 (D)For we know who said, “I will take revenge, I will repay”; and who also said, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God!
