Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
113 1 An exhortation to praise the Lord for his providence 7 in that that contrary to the course of nature he worketh in his Church.
Praise ye the Lord.
1 Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, [a]praise the Name of the Lord.
2 Blessed be the Name of the Lord from henceforth and forever.
3 The Lord’s Name is praised from the rising of the sun, unto the going down of the same.
4 The Lord is high above all [b]nations, and his glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like unto the Lord our God, that hath his dwelling on high.
6 Who abaseth himself to behold things in the heavens and in the earth!
7 He raiseth the needy out of the dust, and lifteth up the [c]poor out of the dung,
8 That he may set him with the princes, even with the princes of his people.
9 He maketh the barren woman to dwell with a family, and a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.
28 And the maid ran and told them of her mother’s house according to these words.
29 ¶ Now Rebekah had a brother called Laban, and Laban ran unto the man to the well.
30 For when he had seen the earrings and bracelets in his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus said the man unto me, then he went to the man, and lo, [a]he stood by the camels at the well.
31 And he said, Come in thou blessed of the Lord: wherefore standest thou without, seeing I have prepared the house, and room for the camels?
32 ¶ Then the man came into the house, and [b]he unsaddled the [c]camels, and brought litter and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
33 Afterward the meat was set before him: but he said, I [d]will not eat, until I have said my message. And he said: Speak on.
34 Then he said, I am Abraham’s servant,
35 And the Lord hath [e]blessed my master wonderfully, that he is become great: for he hath given him sheep, and beeves, and silver, and gold, and men servants, and maid servants, and camels, and asses.
36 And Sarah my master’s wife hath borne a son to my master, when she was old, and unto him hath he given all that he hath.
37 Now my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the [f]Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
38 But thou shalt go unto my [g]father’s house and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.
39 Then I said unto my master, What if the woman will not follow me?
40 Who answered me, The Lord, before who I walk, will send his Angel with thee, and prosper thy journey, and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred and my father’s house.
41 Then shalt thou be discharged of [h]mine oath, when thou comest to my kindred: and if they give thee not one, thou shalt be free from mine oath.
42 So I came this day to the well, and said, O Lord, the God of my master Abraham, if thou now prosper my [i]journey which I go,
16 (A)[a]And he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up, and (as his custom was) went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the Prophet Isaiah: and when he had [b]opened the book, he found the place, where it was written,
18 (B)The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me, that I should preach the Gospel to the poor: he hath sent me, that I should heal the brokenhearted, that I should preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, that I should set at liberty them that are bruised:
19 And that I should preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and gave it again to the minister, and sat down: and the eyes of all that were in the Synagogue were fastened on him.
21 Then he began to say unto them, This day is the Scripture fulfilled in your ears.
22 [c]And all [d]bare him witness, and [e]wondered at the [f]gracious words, which proceeded out of his mouth, and said, Is not this Joseph’s son?
23 Then he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this Proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do it here likewise in thine own country.
24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, (C)No Prophet is accepted in his own country.
25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of (D)Elijah, when heaven was shut three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the [g]land:
26 But unto none of them was Elijah sent, save into Zarephath, a city of Sidon, unto a certain widow.
27 Also many lepers were in Israel, in the time of (E)Elisha the Prophet: yet none of them was made clean, saving Naaman the Syrian.
28 [h]Then all that were in the Synagogue, when they heard it, were filled with wrath,
29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the edge of the hill, whereon their city was built, to cast him down headlong.
30 But he passed through the midst of them, and went his way,
