Job

1 The holiness, riches, and care of Job for his children. 10 Satan hath permission to tempt him. 13 He tempteth him by taking away his substance, and his children. 20 His faith and patience.

There was a man in the land of [a]Uz called Job, and this man [b]was an upright and just man, [c]one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

Job 2:1-10

6 Satan hath permission to afflict Job. 9 His wife tempteth him to forsake God. 11 His three friends visit him.

And on a day the [a]children of God came and stood before the Lord, and [b]Satan came also among them, and stood before the Lord.

Then the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From compassing the earth to and fro, and from walking in it.

And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou not considered my servant Job, how none is like him in the earth? (A)an upright and just man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? for yet he continueth in his uprightness, [c]although thou movedst me against him, to destroy [d]him without cause.

And Satan answered the Lord, and said, [e]Skin for skin, and all that ever a man hath, will he give for his life.

But stretch now out thine hand, and touch his [f]bones and his flesh, to see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face.

Then the Lord said unto Satan, Lo, he is in thine hand, but save [g]his life.

¶ So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore [h]boils, from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

And he took a [i]potsherd to scrape him, and he sat down among the ashes.

Then said his [j]wife unto him, Dost thou [k]continue yet in thine uprightness? [l]Blaspheme God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest like a foolish woman: what? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and not [m]receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his [n]lips.

Psalm 26

26 1 David oppressed with many injuries, finding no help in the world, calleth for aid from God: and assured of his integrity towards Saul, desireth God to be his judge, and to defend his innocence. 6 Finally he maketh mention of his sacrifice, which he will offer for his deliverance, and desireth to be in the company of the faithful in the Congregation of God, whence he was banished by Saul, promising integrity of life, and open praises and thanksgiving.

Judge me, [a]O Lord, for I have walked in mine innocency: my trust hath been also in the Lord: therefore shall I not slide.

Prove me, O Lord, and try me: examine my [b]reins, and mine heart.

For thy [c]lovingkindness is before mine eyes: therefore have I walked in thy truth.

I have not [d]haunted with vain persons, neither kept company with the dissemblers.

I have hated the assembly of the evil, and have not companied with the wicked.

I will [e]wash mine hands in innocency, O Lord, and compass thine altar,

That I may declare with the voice of thanksgiving, and set forth all thy wondrous works.

O Lord, I have loved the habitation of thine house, and the place where thine honor dwelleth.

[f]Gather not my soul with the sinners, nor my life with the bloody men:

10 In whose hand is [g]wickedness, and their right hand is full of bribes.

11 But I will walk in mine innocency: redeem me therefore, and be merciful unto me.

12 My foot standeth in [h]uprightness: I will praise thee, O Lord, in the Congregations.

Hebrews 1:1-4

The Epistle to the Hebrews

The drift and end of this Epistle, is to show that Jesus Christ the Son of God both God and man, is that true eternal and only Prophet, King, and high Priest, that was shadowed by the figures of the old Law, and is now indeed exhibited: of whom the whole Church ought to be taught, governed and sanctified.

2 To show that the doctrine which Christ brought, is most excellent, in that it is the knitting up of all prophecies, 4 he advanceth him above the Angels: 10 And proveth by divers testimonies of the Scripture, that he far passeth all others.

At [a]sundry times and in divers manners God spake in the old time to our fathers by the Prophets: in these [b]last days he hath spoken unto us by his [c]Son,

[d]Whom he hath made [e]heir of all things, by whom also he made the [f]worlds,

(A)Who being the [g]brightness of the glory, and the engraved form of his [h]person, and [i]bearing up all things by his mighty word: [j]hath by himself purged our sins: and [k]sitteth at the right hand of the Majesty in the highest places,

[l]And is made so much more excellent than the Angels, inasmuch as he hath obtained a more excellent [m]Name than they.

Hebrews 2:5-12

[a]For he hath not put in subjection unto the Angels the [b]world to come, whereof we speak.

[c]But (A)one in a certain place witnessed, saying, [d]What is man, that thou shouldest be mindful of him? or the [e]son of man, that thou wouldest consider him?

Thou [f]madest him a little inferior to the Angels: thou crownedst him with [g]glory and honor, and hast set him above the works of thine hands.

(B)Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. And in that he hath put all things in subjection under him, he left nothing that should not be subject unto him. [h]But we yet see not all things subdued unto him,

[i]But we [j]see Jesus crowned with glory and honor, (C)which was made little [k]inferior to the Angels, [l]through the [m]suffering of death, that by God’s grace he might [n]taste death for [o]all men.

10 [p]For it became [q]him, for whom are all these things, and by whom are all these things, [r]seeing that he brought many children unto glory, [s]that he should consecrate the [t]Prince of their salvation through afflictions.

11 [u]For he that [v]sanctifieth, and they which are sanctified, are all of [w]one: wherefore he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

12 [x]Saying, (D)I will declare thy Name unto my brethren: in the midst of the Church will I sing praises to thee.

Mark 10:2-16

Then the Pharisees came and asked him, if it were lawful for a man to put away his wife, and tempted him.

And he answered, and said unto them, What did (A)Moses command you?

And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

[a]Then Jesus answered, and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote this [b]precept unto you.

But at the beginning of the creation (B)God made them male and female:

(C)For this cause shall man leave his father and mother, and cleave unto his wife.

And they twain shall be one flesh: so that they are no more twain, but one flesh.

(D)Therefore, what God hath coupled together, let not man separate.

10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of that matter.

11 And he said unto them, (E)whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another, commiteth adultery [c]against her.

12 And if a woman put away her husband, and be married to another, she commiteth adultery.

13 (F)[d]Then they brought little children to him, that he should touch them, and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14 But when Jesus saw it, he was displeased, and said to them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God [e]as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

16 And he took them up in his arms, and put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
