111 Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments.

² His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the righteous shall be blessed.

³ Glory and wealth shall be in his house: and his justice remaineth for ever and ever.

⁴ To the righteous a light is risen up in darkness: he is merciful, and compassionate and just.

⁵ Acceptable is the man that sheweth mercy and lendeth: he shall order his words with judgment:

⁶ Because he shall not be moved for ever.

⁷ The just shall be in everlasting remembrance: he shall not hear the evil hearing. His heart is ready to hope in the Lord:

⁸ His heart is strengthened, he shall not be moved until he look over his enemies.

⁹ He hath distributed, he hath given to the poor: his justice remaineth for ever and ever: his horn shall be exalted in glory.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see, and shall be angry, he shall gnash with his teeth and pine away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

2 And the days of David drew nigh that he should die, and he charged his son Solomon, saying:

² I am going the way of all flesh: take thou courage, and shew thyself a man.

³ And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and observe his ceremonies, and his precepts, and judgments, and testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses: that thou mayest understand all thou dost, and whithersoever thou shalt turn thyself:

⁴ That the Lord may confirm his words, which he hath spoken of me, saying: If thy children shall take heed to their ways, and shall walk before me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul, there shall not be taken away from thee a man on the throne of Israel.

⁵ Thou knowest also what Joab the son of Sarvia hath done to me, what he did to the two captains of the army of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether: whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet.

⁶ Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoary head go down to hell in peace.

⁷ But shew kindness to the sons of Berzellai the Galaadite, and let them eat at thy table: for they met me when I fled from the face of Absalom thy brother.

⁸ Thou hast also with thee Semei the son of Gera the son of Jemini of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse, when I went to the camp: but because he came down to meet me when I passed over the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying: I will not kill thee with a sword:

⁹ Do not thou hold him guiltless. But thou art a wise man, and knowest what to do with him, and thou shalt bring down his grey hairs with blood to hell.

¹⁰ So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

¹¹ And the days that David reigned in Israel, were forty years: in Hebron he reigned seven years, in Jerusalem thirty-three.

⁷ There cometh a woman of Samaria, to draw water. Jesus saith to her: Give me to drink.

⁸ For his disciples were gone into the city to buy meats.

⁹ Then that Samaritan woman saith to him: How dost thou, being a Jew, ask of me to drink, who am a Samaritan woman? For the Jews do not communicate with the Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jesus answered, and said to her: If thou didst know the gift of God, and who he is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹¹ The woman saith to him: Sir, thou hast nothing wherein to draw, and the well is deep; from whence then hast thou living water?

¹² Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

¹³ Jesus answered, and said to her: Whosoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again; but he that shall drink of the water that I will give him, shall not thirst for ever:

¹⁴ But the water that I will give him, shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into life everlasting.

¹⁵ The woman saith to him: Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to draw.

¹⁶ Jesus saith to her: Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

¹⁷ The woman answered, and said: I have no husband. Jesus said to her: Thou hast said well, I have no husband:

¹⁸ For thou hast had five husbands: and he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband. This thou hast said truly.

¹⁹ The woman saith to him: Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers adored on this mountain, and you say, that at Jerusalem is the place where men must adore.

²¹ Jesus saith to her: Woman, believe me, that the hour cometh, when you shall neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, adore the Father.

²² You adore that which you know not: we adore that which we know; for salvation is of the Jews.

²³ But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true adorers shall adore the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeketh such to adore him.

²⁴ God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth.

²⁵ The woman saith to him: I know that the Messias cometh (who is called Christ); therefore, when he is come, he will tell us all things.

²⁶ Jesus saith to her: I am he, who am speaking with thee.
