Psalm 57

57 1 David being in the desert of Ziph, where the inhabitants did betray him, and at length in the same cave with Saul, 2 Calleth most earnestly unto God, with full confidence that he will perform his promise, and take his cause in hand. 5 Also that he will show his glory in the heavens and the earth against his cruel enemies. 9 Therefore doth he render laud and praise.

To him that excelleth. [a]Destroy not. A Psalm of David on Michtam. (A)When he fled from Saul in the cave.

Have mercy upon me, O God, have mercy upon me; for my soul trusteth in thee, and in the shadow of thy wings will I [b]trust, till these [c]afflictions overpass.

I will call unto the most high God, even the God, that [d]performeth his promise toward me.

He will send from [e]heaven, and save me from the reproof of him that would swallow me. Selah. God will send his mercy, and his truth.

My soul is among lions; I lie among the children of men, that are set on fire; whose teeth are [f]spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

[g]Exalt thyself, O God, above the heaven, and let thy glory be upon all the earth.

They have laid a net for my steps; [h]my soul is pressed down, they have dug a pit before me, and are fallen into the midst of it. Selah.

Mine heart is [i]prepared, O God, mine heart is prepared; I will sing and give praise.

[j]Awake my tongue, awake viol and harp: I will awake early.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people, and I will sing unto thee among the nations.

10 For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the [k]clouds.

11 Exalt thyself, O God, above the heavens, and let thy glory be upon all the earth.

2 Samuel 15:13-31

13 ¶ Then came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are turned after Absalom.

14 Then David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Up, and let us flee: for we shall not escape from [a]Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he come suddenly and take us, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

15 And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, thy servants are ready to do according to all that my lord the king shall [b]appoint.

16 So the king departed and all his household [c]after him, and the king left ten concubines to keep the house.

17 And the king went forth and all the people after him, and tarried in a [d]place [e]far off.

18 And all his servants went about him, and all the [f]Cherethites and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, even six hundred men which were come after him from Gath, went before the king.

19 Then said the King to [g]Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore comest thou also with us? Return and abide with the King, for thou art a stranger, depart thou therefore to thy place.

20 Thou camest yesterday, and should I cause thee to wander today and go with us? I will go whither I can: therefore return thou, and carry again thy [h]brethren: mercy and [i]truth be with thee.

21 And Ittai answered the King, and said, As the Lord liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there surely will thy servant be.

22 Then David said to Ittai, Come, and go forward. And Ittai the Gittite went, and all his men, and all the children that were with him.

23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and [j]all the people went forward, but the King passed over the brook Kidron: and all the people went over toward the way of the wilderness.

24 ¶ And lo, Zadok also was there, and all the Levites with him, [k]bearing the Ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the Ark of God: and Abiathar went [l]up until the people were all come out of the city.

25 Then the King said unto Zadok, Carry the Ark of God again into the city: if I shall find favor in the eyes of the Lord, he will bring me again, and show me both it, and the [m]Tabernacle thereof.

26 But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee, behold, [n]here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good in his eyes.

27 The King said again unto Zadok the Priest, Art not thou a (A)Seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you: to wit, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

28 Behold, I will tarry in the fields of the wilderness, until there come some word from you to be told me.

29 Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the Ark of God again to Jerusalem, and they tarried there.

30 And David went up the mount of olives, and wept as he went up, and had his head [o]covered, and went barefooted: and all the people that was with him, had every man his head covered, and as they went up, they wept.

31 Then one told David, saying, Ahithophel is one of them that have conspired with Absalom: and David said, O Lord, I pray thee, turn the [p]counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

Ephesians 5:1-14

3 Lest, in those vices which he reprehended, they should set light by his admonitions, 5 he terrifieth them by denouncing severe judgment, 8 and stirreth them forward: 15 Then he defendeth from general lessons of manners, 22 to the particular duties of wives, 25 and husbands.

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children,

(A)And walk in love, even as Christ hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, to be an offering and a sacrifice of a sweet smelling savor to God.

(B)[a]But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as it becometh Saints,

Neither filthiness, neither foolish talking, neither [b]jesting, which are things not comely, but rather giving of thanks.

[c]For this ye know, that no whoremonger, neither unclean person, nor covetous person, which is an [d]idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ, and of God.

(C)Let no man deceive you with vain words: for, for such things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

[e]Be not therefore companions with them.

For ye were once darkness, but are now [f]light in the Lord: walk as children of light.

(For the fruit of the [g]Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth.)

10 Approving that which is pleasing to the Lord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but even [h]reprove them rather.

12 For it is shame even to speak of the things which are done of them in secret.

13 But all things when they are reproved of the light, are manifest: for it is light that maketh all things manifest.

14 Wherefore [i]he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and stand up from the [j]dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
