Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
5 And the king commanded Joab and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, Entreat the young man Absalom gently for my sake. And all the people heard when the King gave all the Captains charge concerning Absalom.
6 So the people went out into the field to meet Israel, and the battle was in the [a]wood of Ephraim:
7 Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David: so there was a great slaughter that day, even of twenty thousand.
8 ¶ For the battle was scattered over all the country: and the wood devoured much more people that day than did the sword.
9 ¶ Now Absalom met the servants of David, and Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule came under a great thick oak: and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up [b]between the heaven and the earth: and the mule that was under him went away.
15 And ten servants that bare Joab’s armor, compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.
31 And behold, Cushi came, and Cushi said, [a]Tidings, my lord the King: for the Lord hath delivered thee this day out of the hand of all that rose against thee.
32 Then the King said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the King, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.
33 And the King was [b]moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom: would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son.
130 The people of God from their bottomless miseries do cry unto God, and are heard. 3 They confess their sins, and flee unto God’s mercies.
A song of degrees.
1 Out of the [a]deep places have I called unto thee, O Lord.
2 Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears attend to the voice of my prayers.
3 If thou, O Lord, straightly markest iniquities, O Lord, [b]who shall stand?
4 But mercy is with thee, that thou [c]mayest be feared.
5 I have waited on the Lord: my soul hath waited, and I have trusted in his word.
6 My soul waiteth on the Lord more than the morning watch watcheth for the morning.
7 Let Israel wait on the Lord: for with the Lord is [d]mercy, and with him is great redemption.
8 And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.
25 [a]Wherefore cast off lying, and speak every man truth unto his neighbor: for we are members one of another.
26 [b]Be [c]angry, but sin not: let not the sun go down [d]upon your wrath,
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 [e]Let him that stole, steal no more: but let him rather labor, and work with his hands the thing which is [f]good, that he may have to give unto him that needeth.
29 [g]Let no [h]corrupt communication proceed out of your mouths: but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister [i]grace unto the hearers.
30 [j]And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, by whom ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and anger, and wrath, crying, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all maliciousness.
32 Be ye courteous one to another, and tender hearted, freely forgiving one another, [k]even as God for Christ’s sake, freely forgave you.
5 3 Lest, in those vices which he reprehended, they should set light by his admonitions, 5 he terrifieth them by denouncing severe judgment, 8 and stirreth them forward: 15 Then he defendeth from general lessons of manners, 22 to the particular duties of wives, 25 and husbands.
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children,
2 (A)And walk in love, even as Christ hath loved us, and hath given himself for us, to be an offering and a sacrifice of a sweet smelling savor to God.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am that bread [a]of life: he that cometh to me, shall not hunger, and he that believeth in me, shall never thirst.
41 [a]The Jews then murmured at him because he said, I am that bread, which is come down from heaven.
42 And they said, (A)Is not this Jesus that son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how then saith he, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus then answered, and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father, which hath sent me, draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the (B)[b]Prophets, And they shall be all [c]taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me:
46 (C)Not that any man hath seen the Father, [d]save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily I say unto you, he that believeth in me, hath everlasting life.
48 [e]I am that bread of life.
49 (D)Your fathers did eat Manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 [f]This is that bread, which cometh down from heaven, that he which eateth of it, should not die.
51 [g]I am that [h]living bread, which came down from heaven: if any man [i]eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
