Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 89:20-37

20 (A)I have made my servant David king
    by anointing him with holy oil.
21 My strength will always be with him,
    my power will make him strong.
22 His enemies will never succeed against him;
    the wicked will not defeat him.
23 I will crush his foes
    and kill everyone who hates him.
24 I will love him and be loyal to him;
    I will make him always victorious.
25 I will extend his kingdom
    from the Mediterranean to the Euphrates River.
26 He will say to me,
    ‘You are my father and my God;
    you are my protector and savior.’
27 (B)I will make him my first-born son,
    the greatest of all kings.
28 I will always keep my promise to him,
    and my covenant with him will last forever.
29 His dynasty will be as permanent as the sky;
    a descendant of his will always be king.

30 “But if his descendants disobey my law
    and do not live according to my commands,
31 if they disregard my instructions
    and do not keep my commandments,
32 then I will punish them for their sins;
    I will make them suffer for their wrongs.
33 But I will not stop loving David
    or fail to keep my promise to him.
34 I will not break my covenant with him
    or take back even one promise I made him.

35 “Once and for all I have promised by my holy name:
    I will never lie to David.
36 He will always have descendants,
    and I will watch over his kingdom as long as the sun shines.
37 It will be as permanent as the moon,
    that faithful witness in the sky.”

1 Chronicles 11:15-19

15 One day three of the thirty leading soldiers went to a rock where David was staying near Adullam Cave, while a band of Philistines was camping in Rephaim Valley. 16 At that time David was on a fortified hill, and a group of Philistines had occupied Bethlehem. 17 David got homesick and said, “How I wish someone would bring me a drink of water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem!” 18 The three famous soldiers forced their way through the Philistine camp, drew some water from the well, and brought it back to David. But he would not drink it; instead he poured it out as an offering to the Lord 19 and said, “I could never drink this! It would be like drinking the blood of these men who risked their lives!” So he refused to drink it. These were the brave deeds of the three famous soldiers.

Colossians 1:15-23

The Person and Work of Christ

15 (A)Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created things. 16 For through him God created everything in heaven and on earth, the seen and the unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God created the whole universe through him and for him. 17 Christ existed before all things, and in union with him all things have their proper place. 18 (B)He is the head of his body, the church; he is the source of the body's life. He is the first-born Son, who was raised from death, in order that he alone might have the first place in all things. 19 For it was by God's own decision that the Son has in himself the full nature of God. 20 (C)Through the Son, then, God decided to bring the whole universe back to himself. God made peace through his Son's blood[a] on the cross and so brought back to himself all things, both on earth and in heaven.

21 At one time you were far away from God and were his enemies because of the evil things you did and thought. 22 But now, by means of the physical death of his Son, God has made you his friends, in order to bring you, holy, pure, and faultless, into his presence. 23 You must, of course, continue faithful on a firm and sure foundation, and must not allow yourselves to be shaken from the hope you gained when you heard the gospel. It is of this gospel that I, Paul, became a servant—this gospel which has been preached to everybody in the world.
