6 3 The Ark is brought forth of the house of Abinadab. 7 Uzzah is stricken, and dieth. 14 David danceth before it, 16 and is therefore despised of his wife Michal.
1 Again David gathered together all the [a]chosen men of Israel, even thirty thousand
2 (A)And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from [b]Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the Ark of God, whose Name is called by the Name of the Lord of hosts, that dwelleth upon it between the Cherubims.
3 And they put the Ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, that was in [c]Gibeah. And Uzzah and Ahio the sons of Abinadab did drive the new cart.
4 And when they brought the Ark of God out of the house of (B)Abinadab, that was at Gibeah, Ahio went before the Ark.
5 And David and all the house of Israel [d]played before the Lord on all instruments made of fir, and on harps, and on Psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
12 And one told King David, saying, (A)The Lord hath blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that he hath, because of the Ark of God: therefore David went and [a]brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom, into the city of David with gladness.
13 And when they that bare the Ark of the Lord had gone six paces, he offered an ox, and a fat beast.
14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might, and was girded with a linen [b]Ephod.
15 So David and all the house of Israel brought the Ark of the Lord with shouting, and sound of trumpet.
16 And as the Ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw King David leap, and dance before the Lord, and she [c]despised him in her heart.
17 And when they had brought in the Ark of the Lord, they set it in his place, in the midst of the Tabernacle that David had pitched for it: then David offered burnt offerings, and peace offerings before the Lord.
18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he (B)blessed the people in the Name of the Lord of hosts,
19 And gave among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a piece of flesh, and a bottle of wine: so all the people departed every one to his house.
24 1 Albeit the Lord God hath made, and governeth all the world, yet toward his chosen people, his gracious goodness doth most abundantly appear, in that among them he will have his dwelling place. Which thought it was appointed among the children of Abraham, yet only they do enter aright into this Sanctuary, which are the true worshippers of God, purged from the sinful filth of this world. 7 Finally he magnifieth God’s grace for the building of the Temple, to the end he might stir up all the faithful to the true service of God.
A Psalm of David.
1 The earth (A)is the Lord’s, and all that therein is; the world and they that dwell therein.
2 For he hath founded it upon the [a]seas; and established it upon the floods.
3 Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord? and who shall stand in his holy place?
4 Even he that hath innocent hands, and a pure heart; which hath not lifted up his mind unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the [b]generation of them that seek him, of them that seek thy face, this is Jacob. Selah.
7 [c]Lift up your heads ye gates, and be ye lifted up ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? the Lord, strong and mighty, even the Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, ye gates, and lift up yourselves ye everlasting doors, and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? the Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
3 (A)[a]Blessed be God, [b]and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, [c]which hath blessed us, with [d]all spiritual blessing in [e]heavenly things in [f]Christ,
4 [g]As he hath chosen us in [h]him, before the foundation of the world, [i]that we [j]should [k]be holy, and without blame [l]before him in love:
5 [m]Who hath predestinated us, to be adopted through Jesus Christ [n]in himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.
6 [o]To the [p]praise of the glory of his grace, [q]wherewith he hath made us freely accepted in his beloved.
7 [r]By whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins, according to his rich grace:
8 [s][t]Whereby he hath been abundant toward us in [u]all wisdom and understanding,
9 And hath opened unto us the [v]mystery of his will [w]according to his good pleasure, which he hath purposed in him,
10 [x]That in the dispensation of the fullness of the times, he might [y]gather together in one all things, both which are in heaven, and which are in earth, even in Christ:
11 [z]In whom also we are chosen when we were predestinated according to the purpose of him, which worketh [aa]all things after the counsel of his own will,
12 That we, which [ab]first trusted in Christ, should be unto the praise of his glory:
13 [ac]In whom also ye have trusted, after that ye heard the [ad]word of truth, even the Gospel of your salvation, wherein also after that ye believed, ye were [ae]sealed with the holy [af]Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance, for the [ag]redemption of that liberty purchased unto the praise of his glory.
14 ¶ (A)[a]Then King Herod heard of him (for his Name was made manifest) and said, John Baptist is risen again from the dead, and therefore great [b]works are wrought by him.
15 Others said, It is Elijah, and some said, It is a Prophet, or as one of [c]those Prophets.
16 (B)So when Herod heard it, he said, It is John whom [d]I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
17 For Herod himself had sent forth, and had taken John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, which was his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her.
18 For John said unto Herod, (C)It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
19 Therefore Herodias [e]laid wait against him: and would have killed him, but she could not:
20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man, and an holy, and reverenced him, and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him [f]gladly.
21 But the time being convenient, when Herod on his birthday made a banquet to his princes and captains, and chief estates of Galilee:
22 And the daughter [g]of the same Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod, and them that sat at table together, the King said unto the maid, Ask of me what thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
23 And he swore unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, even unto the half of my kingdom.
24 (D)So [h]she went forth, and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, John Baptist’s head.
25 Then she came in straightway with haste unto the King, and asked, saying, I would that thou shouldest give me even now in a charger the head of John Baptist.
26 Then the King was very sorry: yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat at table with him, he would not refuse her.
27 And immediately the King sent the [i]hangman, and gave charge that his head should be brought in. So he went and beheaded him in the prison,
28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the maid, and the maid gave it to her mother.
29 And when his disciples heard it, they came and took up his body, and put it in a tomb.
