Psalm 53

Foolish Men

53 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are sinful and have done bad things. There is no one who does good. God has looked down from heaven at the children of men to see if there is anyone who understands and looks for God. They have all turned back. They have all turned to sin. There is no one who does good, not even one. Have those who do wrong no understanding? They eat up My people like they eat bread. They have not called upon God. There they were, in much fear, where there was nothing to be afraid of. For God has spread out the bones of those who come against you. You put them to shame, because God has turned away from them. O, that the saving of Israel would come out of Zion! Jacob will be full of joy and Israel will be glad when God returns His people to their land.

1 Samuel 15:24-31

24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned. I have sinned against the Word of the Lord and your words, because I was afraid of the people and listened to them. 25 Now I beg you, forgive my sin and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.” 26 But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have turned away from the Word of the Lord. And the Lord has turned away from you being king over Israel.” 27 As Samuel turned to go, Saul took hold of part of his clothing, and it tore. 28 So Samuel said to him, “Today the Lord has torn the rule of Israel away from you. He has given it to your neighbor who is better than you. 29 And the shining greatness of Israel will not lie or change His mind. For He is not a man that He should change His mind.” 30 Saul said, “I have sinned. But I beg you, honor me now in front of the leaders of my people and in front of Israel. Return with me, that I may worship the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel returned with Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.

Luke 6:43-45

Jesus Teaches about False Teachers

43 “A good tree cannot have bad fruit. A bad tree cannot have good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. Men do not gather figs from thorns. They do not gather grapes from thistles. 45 Good comes from a good man because of the riches he has in his heart. Sin comes from a sinful man because of the sin he has in his heart. The mouth speaks of what the heart is full of.
