1 Samuel 15:34-16:13

34 ¶ So Samuel departed to [a]Ramah, and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

35 And Samuel came no more to [b]see Saul until the day of his death: but Samuel mourned for Saul, and the Lord [c]repented that he made Saul King over Israel.

16 1 Samuel is reproved of God, and is sent to anoint David. 7 God regardeth the heart. 13 The Spirit of the Lord cometh upon David. 14 The wicked Spirit is sent upon Saul. 19 Saul sendeth for David.

The Lord then said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, [d]seeing I have cast him away from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil and come, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a King among his sons.

And Samuel said, How can I go? for if Saul shall hear it, he will kill me. Then the Lord answered, Take an heifer [e]with thee, and say, I am come [f]to do sacrifice to the Lord.

And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do, and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

So Samuel did that the Lord bade him, and came to Bethlehem, and the elders of the town were [g]astonished at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

And he answered, Yea: I am come to do sacrifice unto the Lord: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

And when they were come, he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord’s [h]Anointed is before him.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature, because I have refused him: for God seeth not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord beholdeth the (A)heart.

Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him come before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the Lord chosen this.

Then Jesse made Shammah come. And he said, Neither yet hath the Lord chosen him.

10 Again Jesse made his seven sons to come before Samuel, and Samuel said unto Jesse, The Lord hath chosen none of these.

11 Finally, Samuel said unto Jesse, [i]Are there no more children but these? And he said, There remaineth yet a little one behind, that keepeth the sheep. Then Samuel said unto Jesse, (B)Send and fet him: for we will not sit down, till he be come hither.

12 And he sent, and brought him in: and he was ruddy, and of a good countenance, and comely visage. And the Lord said, Arise, and anoint him: for this is he.

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren. And the (C)Spirit of the Lord [j]came upon David, from that day forward: then Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Psalm 20

20 A prayer of the people unto God, that it would please him to hear their king and receive his sacrifice, which he offered before he went to battle against the Ammonites.

To him that excelleth. A Psalm of David.

The [a]Lord hear thee in the day of trouble: the [b]Name of the God of Jacob defend thee:

Send thee help from the Sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion.

Let him remember all thine offerings, and [c]turn thy burnt offerings into ashes. Selah.

And grant thee according to thine heart, and fulfill all thy purpose:

That we may rejoice in thy [d]salvation, and set up the banner in the Name of our God, when the Lord shall perform all thy petitions.

Now [e]know I that the Lord will help his anointed, and will hear him from his [f]Sanctuary, by the mighty help of his right hand.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord our God.

[g]They are brought down and fallen, but we are risen, and stand upright.

Save Lord: [h]Let the King hear us in the day that we call.

2 Corinthians 5:6-10

[a]Therefore we are always [b]bold, though we know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.

(For we walk by [c]faith, and not by sight.)

Nevertheless, we are [d]bold, and love rather to remove out of the body, and to dwell with the Lord.

Wherefore also we [e]covet, that both dwelling at home, and removing from home, we may be acceptable to him.

10 (A)[f]For we must all [g]appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that every man may receive the things which are done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or evil.

2 Corinthians 5:11-13

11 [a]Knowing therefore that [b]terror of the Lord, we persuade men, and we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also that we are made manifest in your consciences.

12 [c]For we praise not ourselves again unto you, but give you an occasion to rejoice of us that ye may have to answer against them, which rejoice in the [d]face, and not in the heart.

13 [e]For whether we be out of our wit, we are it to God: or whether we be in our right mind, we are it unto you.

2 Corinthians 5:14-17

14 [a]For that love of Christ [b]constraineth us,

15 Because we thus judge, that if [c]one be dead for all, then were all dead, and he died for all, that they which live, should not henceforth [d]live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

16 [e]Wherefore, henceforth know we no man after the flesh, [f]yea though we had known Christ after the flesh, yet not henceforth know we him no more.

17 [g]Therefore if any man be in Christ, let him be a [h]new creature. (A)Old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new.

Mark 4:26-34

26 [a]Also he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed in the ground.

27 And [b]should sleep, and rise up night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he [c]not knowing how.

28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit [d]of itself, first the blade, then the ears, after that full corn in the ears.

29 And as soon as the fruit showeth itself, anon he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

30 (A)[e]He said moreover, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which when it is sown in the earth, is the least of all seeds that be in the earth:

32 But after that it is sown, it groweth up, and is greatest of all herbs, and beareth great branches, so that the fowls of the heaven may build under the shadow of it.

33 And (B)with many such parables he preached the word unto them, [f]as they were able to hear it.

34 And without parables spake he nothing unto them: but he [g]expounded all things to his disciples apart.
