Psalm 135

135 Praise the Name of the LORD, you servants of the LORD! Praise,

you who stand in the House of the LORD and in the courts of the House of our God!

Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good! Sing praises to His Name; for it is a sweet thing.

For the LORD has chosen Jacob for Himself and Israel for His chief treasure.

For I know that the LORD is great and that our LORD is above all gods.

Whatever pleased the LORD, He did in Heaven and on Earth, in the sea and in all the depths.

He brings up the clouds from the ends of the Earth and makes the lightning with the rain. He draws forth the wind out of His treasures.

He struck the firstborn of Egypt (of both man and beast).

He has sent signs and wonders into the midst of You, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh and upon all his servants.

10 He struck many nations and slew mighty Kings—

11 Sihon, King of the Amorites and Og, King of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan—

12 and gave their land for an inheritance, an inheritance to Israel, His people.

13 Your Name, O LORD, endures forever! O LORD, Your remembrance is from generation to generation.

14 For the LORD will judge His people and be pacified toward His servants.

15 The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

16 They have a mouth and do not speak. They have eyes and do not see.

17 They have ears and do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouth.

18 Those who make them are like them, all who trust in them.

19 Praise the LORD, you House of Israel! Praise the LORD, you House of Aaron!

20 Praise the LORD, you House of Levi! You who fear the LORD, praise the LORD!

21 Praise the LORD out of Zion, Who dwells in Jerusalem! Praise the LORD!

Isaiah 26:1-15

26 On that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city, God shall set salvation for walls and bulwarks.

“Open the gates so that the righteous nation, which keeps the truth, may enter in.

“By an assured purpose will You preserve perfect peace, because they trusted in You.

“Trust in the LORD forever, For in the LORD God is strength forevermore.

“For He will bring down those who dwell on high, The high city He will lay low, He will cast it down to the ground and bring it to dust.

“The foot shall tread it down, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.

“The way of the just is righteousness, You will make equal the righteous path of the just.

“Also, we, O LORD, have waited for You in the way of Your judgments. The desire of our soul is to Your Name and to the remembrance of You.

“With my soul have I desired You in the night. And with my spirit within me will I seek You in the morning. For seeing Your judgments on the Earth, the inhabitants of the world shall learn righteousness.

10 “Let mercy be shown to the wicked, he will not learn righteousness. In the land of uprightness, he will do wickedly, and will not behold the majesty of the LORD.

11 “O LORD, they will not behold Your high Hand. They shall see it and be confounded with the zeal of the people. And the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.

12 “LORD, to us You will ordain peace. For You also have wrought all our works for us.

13 “O LORD our God, lords besides You have ruled us. We will remember You only, Your Name.

14 “The dead shall not live, nor shall the dead arise, because You have visited and scattered them, and destroyed all their memory.

15 “You have increased the nation, O LORD. You have increased the nation. You are made glorious, You have enlarged all the territories of the Earth.

Mark 12:18-27

18 Then the Sadducees came to Him (who say there is no resurrection). And they asked Him, saying,

19 “Master, Moses wrote to us, ‘If any man’s brother dies and leaves his wife, and leaves no children, his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.’

20 “There were seven brothers, and the first took a wife. And when he died, he left no heir.

21 “Then the second took her and died, leaving no heir, and the third likewise.

22 “So these seven had her and left no heir. Last of all the wife died also.

23 “In the resurrection then, when they shall rise again, whose wife shall she be? For seven had her as their wife.”

24 Then Jesus answered, and said to them, “Are you not therefore deceived, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?

25 “For when they shall rise again from the dead, neither men nor wives marry, but are as the angels which are in Heaven.

26 “And as for the dead, they shall rise again. Have you not read in the book of Moses how, in the bush, God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’

27 “God is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly deceived.”
