Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
35 Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me. Fight against those who fight against me.
2 Lay hand upon the shield and buckler; and stand up for my help.
3 Also, bring out the spear, and stop the way against those who persecute me. Say to my soul, “I am Your salvation.”
4 Let those who seek after my soul be confounded and put to shame. Let those who imagine my hurt be turned back and brought to confusion.
5 Let them be as chaff before the wind; and let the Angel of the LORD scatter them.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery; and let the Angel of the LORD persecute them.
7 For without cause, they have hidden the pit and their net for me. Without cause, they have dug a pit for my soul.
8 Let destruction come upon him unexpectedly; and let his net that he has laid secretly, take him. Let him fall into the same destruction.
9 Then my soul shall be joyful in the LORD. It shall rejoice in His salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, “LORD, who is like You, Who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him; indeed, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him!?”
29 Now these are the words of the Book that Jeremiah the Prophet, sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders who were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the Prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babel
2 (after Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and of Jerusalem, and the workmen, and cunning men had departed from Jerusalem)
3 by the hand of Elasah, the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah, the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah, king of Judah, sent to Babel to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babel) saying,
4 “Thus has the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, spoken to all who are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away captives from Jerusalem to Babel:
5 ‘Build yourselves houses to dwell in. And plant yourselves gardens and eat the fruits of them.
6 ‘Take wives for yourselves and beget sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters, so that you may be increased there and not diminished.
7 ‘And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives. And pray to the LORD for it. For in its peace shall you have peace.’
8 “For thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Do not let your prophets and your soothsayers who are among you, deceive you or listen to your dreams which you dream.
9 ‘For they prophesy a lie to you in My Name. I have not sent them,” says the LORD.
10 ‘But thus says the LORD: that after seventy years are completed at Babel, I will attend to you, and perform My good promise toward you, and cause you to return to this place.
11 ‘For I know the thoughts that I have thought towards you,’ says the LORD, ‘the thoughts of peace and not of trouble, to give you a future and hope.
12 ‘Then you shall cry to Me. And you shall go and pray to Me. And I will hear you.
13 ‘And you shall seek Me, and find, because you shall seek Me with all your heart.
14 ‘And I will be found by you,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will turn away your captivity. And I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have cast you,’ says the LORD, ‘and will bring you back to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive
5 And they came over to the other side of the sea into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when He had come out of the ship, a man who had an unclean spirit met him immediately from out of the graves.
3 He dwelt among the graves. And no one could bind him, not even with chains.
4 Because, when he was often bound with shackles and chains, he broke the chains apart and destroyed the shackles. Nor could anyone tame him.
5 And always, both night and day, he cried in the mountains, and in the graves, and struck himself with stones.
6 And when he saw Jesus at a distance, he ran and worshipped Him,
7 and cried with a loud voice, and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus the Son of the Most High God!? Swear to me by God that You will not torment me!”
8 (For He said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.”)
9 And He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion. For we are many.”
10 And he urged Jesus not to send them away out of the country.
11 Now there was there in the mountains a great heard of swine, feeding.
12 And all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.”
13 And immediately, Jesus gave them leave. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine. And the herd ran headlong from the high bank into the sea, (and there were about two thousand swine) and they were choked up in the sea.
14 And the swineherds fled, and told of it in the city, and in the country. And they came out to see what had been done.
15 And they came to Jesus. And they saw him who had been possessed with the demon and had the legion, sit, both clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
16 And those who saw it told them what had been done to him who had been possessed with the demon and concerning the swine.
17 Then they began to beg Jesus to depart from their coasts.
18 And when He had come into the ship, he who had been possessed with the demon begged him to let him join them.
19 But Jesus would not allow it, and said to him, “Go home to your friends and show them what great things the Lord has done for you; and how He has had compassion on you.”
20 So he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him. And all marveled.
