Good News Translation (GNT)
Version
Psalm 62:5-12

I depend on God alone;
    I put my hope in him.
He alone protects and saves me;
    he is my defender,
    and I shall never be defeated.
My salvation and honor depend on God;
    he is my strong protector;
    he is my shelter.

Trust in God at all times, my people.
    Tell him all your troubles,
    for he is our refuge.

Human beings are all like a puff of breath;
    great and small alike are worthless.
Put them on the scales, and they weigh nothing;
    they are lighter than a mere breath.
10 Don't put your trust in violence;
    don't hope to gain anything by robbery;
even if your riches increase,
    don't depend on them.

11 More than once I have heard God say
    that power belongs to him
12 (A)and that his love is constant.
You yourself, O Lord, reward everyone according to their deeds.

Jeremiah 20:7-13

Jeremiah Complains to the Lord

Lord, you have deceived me,
    and I was deceived.
You are stronger than I am,
    and you have overpowered me.
Everyone makes fun of me;
    they laugh at me all day long.

Whenever I speak, I have to cry out
    and shout, “Violence! Destruction!”
Lord, I am ridiculed and scorned all the time
    because I proclaim your message.
But when I say, “I will forget the Lord
    and no longer speak in his name,”
then your message is like a fire
    burning deep within me.
I try my best to hold it in,
    but can no longer keep it back.
10 I hear everybody whispering,
    “Terror is everywhere!
    So let's report him to the authorities!”
Even my close friends wait for my downfall.
“Perhaps he can be tricked,” they say;
    “then we can catch him and get revenge.”
11 But you, Lord, are on my side, strong and mighty,
    and those who persecute me will fail.
They will be disgraced forever,
    because they cannot succeed.
Their disgrace will never be forgotten.
12 But, Almighty Lord, you test people justly;
    you know what is in their hearts and minds.
So let me see you take revenge on my enemies,
    for I have placed my cause in your hands.
13 Sing to the Lord!
    Praise the Lord!
He rescues the oppressed from the power of evil people.

2 Peter 3:1-7

The Promise of the Lord's Coming

My dear friends, this is now the second letter I have written you. In both letters I have tried to arouse pure thoughts in your minds by reminding you of these things. I want you to remember the words that were spoken long ago by the holy prophets, and the command from the Lord and Savior which was given you by your apostles. (A)First of all, you must understand that in the last days some people will appear whose lives are controlled by their own lusts. They will make fun of you and will ask, “He promised to come, didn't he? Where is he? Our ancestors have already died, but everything is still the same as it was since the creation of the world!” (B)They purposely ignore the fact that long ago God gave a command, and the heavens and earth were created. The earth was formed out of water and by water, (C)and it was also by water, the water of the flood, that the old world was destroyed. But the heavens and the earth that now exist are being preserved by the same command of God, in order to be destroyed by fire. They are being kept for the day when godless people will be judged and destroyed.
