Psalm 97

Psalm 97

The Eternal reigns powerful over all;
    let the earth sing with joy;
    let the distant islands celebrate.
Clouds and deep darkness encircle Him;
    righteousness and justice are the bedrock of His rule.
Fire precedes Him;
    it burns away His opponents on all sides.
With His lightning flashing about, He illuminates the world;
    the earth watches and trembles.
Like wax before the flame, mountains melt when the Eternal appears,
    the Master of the whole earth.

The heavens display His order and perfect justice;
    all peoples witness His magnificence.
Those who worship idols,
    who boast in the impotent creations of human hands, will be shamed.
    Worship Him, all you gods.
Zion heard and was glad,
    and the daughters of Judah celebrated
    because they saw Your justice, O Eternal One.
For You are the Eternal, the Most High, over the entire world;
    You far exceed all gods.

10 Hate evil, you lovers of the Eternal.
    He protects the souls of those who follow Him;
    He rescues them from the devices of the wicked.
11 Light is sown in the just;
    as it grows, it brings joy to the pure of heart.
12 Celebrate the Eternal God, all you who are faithful;
    offer thanks to His holy name.

Exodus 33:1-6

33 Eternal One (instructing Moses): The time has now arrived. Leave, and take all the people you have led out of Egypt with you. Go to the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to whom I said, “I will give this land to your future generations.” I will send a messenger to guide you, and I will force out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and the Jebusites. Travel to the land that flows with milk and honey, the land of your inheritance. However, because you are such an incredibly stubborn people, I will not be going with you. Otherwise, I would completely destroy you during the journey.

When everyone heard the dreadful news, they began to grieve and stopped wearing their jewelry to remind them of the calf made from their gold earrings. You see the Eternal One had instructed Moses, “Give the Israelites this message: ‘You are such an incredibly stubborn people, therefore I am not going to travel with you. If I allowed Myself to travel with you for only a moment, I would completely destroy you. Stop wearing your jewelry so I can figure out what to do with you.’” So the Israelites took off all of their jewelry from the time they left Mount Horeb.

Philippians 3:13-4:1

13 Brothers and sisters, as I said, I know I have not arrived; but there’s one thing I am doing: I’m leaving my old life behind, putting everything on the line for this mission. 14 I am sprinting toward the only goal that counts: to cross the line, to win the prize, and to hear God’s call to resurrection life found exclusively in Jesus the Anointed. 15 All of us who are mature ought to think the same way about these matters. If you have a different attitude, then God will reveal this to you as well. 16 For now, let’s hold on to what we have been shown and keep in step with these teachings.

17 Imitate me, brothers and sisters, and look around to those already following the example we have set. 18 I have warned you before (and now say again through my tears) that we have many enemies—people who reject the cross of the Anointed. 19 They are ruled by their bellies, their glory comes by shame, and their minds are fixed on the things of this world. They are doomed. 20 But we are citizens of heaven, exiles on earth waiting eagerly for a Liberator, our Lord Jesus the Anointed, to come and 21 transform these humble, earthly bodies into the form of His glorious body by the same power that brings all things under His control.

For this reason, brothers and sisters, my joy and crown whom I dearly love, I cannot wait to see you again. Continue to stand firm in the Lord, and follow my instructions in this letter, beloved.
