Psalm 78:1-4

78 Hear my doctrine, O my people. Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth in a parable. I will declare high sentences of old

which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

We will not hide them from their children; but to the generation to come we will show the praise of the LORD, His power also, and His wonderful works that He has done.

Psalm 78:12-16

12 He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt (in the field of Zoan).

13 He divided the sea and led them through. He also made the waters to stand as a heap.

14 Also, in the daytime, He led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

15 He split the rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink, as with the great depths.

16 He also brought floods out of the stony rock, making the waters descend like the rivers.

Numbers 20:1-13

20 Then the children of Israel came with the whole Congregation to the desert of Zin in the first month. And the people stayed at Kadesh, where Miriam died and was buried.

But there was no water for the Congregation; and they assembled themselves against Moses and against Aaron.

And the people argued with Moses, and spoke, saying, “We wish that we had perished when our brothers died before the LORD!

“Why have you brought the Congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, so that we and our cattle should die here?

“Why now have you made us come up from Egypt, to bring us into this miserable place, which is no place of seed or figs or vines or pomegranates? Nor is there any water to drink.”

Then Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation and fell upon their faces. And the Glory of the LORD appeared to them.

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Take the branch, and you and your brother Aaron gather the Congregation together. And speak to the rock before their eyes. And it shall give forth its water. And you shall bring them water out of the rock. So you shall give the Congregation and the beasts drink.”

Then Moses took the branch from before the LORD, as He had Commanded him.

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the Congregation before the rock and said to them, “Hear now you rebels! Shall we bring you water out of this rock?”

11 Then Moses lifted up his hand; and with his rod, he struck the rock twice. And the water came out, abundantly. So the Congregation, and their beasts, drank.

12 Again, the LORD said to Moses, and to Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me (to sanctify Me in the presence of the children of Israel), therefore you shall not bring this Congregation into the land which I have given them.”

13 This is the Water of Meribah, because the children of Israel strove with the LORD. And He was sanctified in them.

Acts 13:32-41

32 “And we declare to you concerning the promise made to the fathers:

33 “that God has fulfilled it to us, their children, in that He raised up Jesus; even as it is written in the second Psalm, ‘You are My Son. This day have I begotten You.’

34 “And considering that He raised Him up from the dead, to return no more to decay, He has said this, ‘I will give you the holy things of David, which are faithful.’

35 “Therefore He also says in another place, ‘You will not allow Your Holy One to see decay.’

36 “For David - after he had served his time, by the counsel of God - slept, and was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.

37 “But He Whom God raised up, saw no decay.

38 “Therefore, be it known to you, brothers, that the forgiveness of sins is preached to you through this Man.

39 “And by Him, everyone who believes is justified from all things which the Law of Moses could not justify.

40 “Therefore beware, so that that which is spoken of in the Prophets does not come upon you:

41 ‘Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and vanish away. For I work a work in your days; a work which you shall not believe, if one should declare it you.’”
