Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
97 O, how I love Your Law! It is what I think about all through the day. 98 Your Word makes me wiser than those who hate me, for it is always with me. 99 I have better understanding than all my teachers because I think about Your Law. 100 I have a better understanding than those who are old because I obey Your Word. 101 I have kept my feet from every sinful way so that I may keep Your Word. 102 I have not turned away from Your Law, for You Yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet is Your Word to my taste! It is sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 I get understanding from Your Law and so I hate every false way.
The Children of Israel Complain
11 Now the people complained about their troubles in the hearing of the Lord. When the Lord heard it, His anger burned. The fire of the Lord burned among them, and destroyed some around the outer parts of the tents. 2 Then the people cried to Moses and he prayed to the Lord, and the fire went out. 3 So the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burned among them.
4 The mixed group of people among them had strong desires. The people of Israel cried again and said, “Who will give us meat to eat? 5 We remember all the fish we could eat free in Egypt, and all the fruit and vegetables and spices. 6 But now our strength is gone. There is nothing at all to look at except this bread from heaven.” 7 Now the bread from heaven was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium. 8 The people would go and gather it and beat it between stones. They boiled it in a pot or made bread with it. It tasted like bread made with oil. 9 When the grass became wet around the tents at night, the bread from heaven would fall.
17 I ask you, Christian brothers, watch out for those who make trouble and start fights. Keep your eye on those who work against the teaching you received. Keep away from them. 18 Men like that are not working for our Lord Jesus Christ. They are chained to their own desires. With soft words they say things people want to hear. People are fooled by them. 19 Everyone knows you have obeyed the teaching you received. I am happy with you because of this. But I want you to be wise about good things and pure about sinful things. 20 God, Who is our peace, will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the loving-favor of our Lord Jesus be yours.
