Psalm 114

God’s Wonders at the Exodus

[a]When Israel went out from Egypt,
    the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,(A)
Judah became God’s[b] sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.(B)

The sea looked and fled;
    Jordan turned back.(C)
The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.(D)

Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
    O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
    O hills, like lambs?

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,(E)
who turns the rock into a pool of water,
    the flint into a spring of water.(F)

Exodus 15:19-21

19 When the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his chariot drivers went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.(A)

The Song of Miriam

20 Then the prophet Miriam, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dancing.(B) 21 And Miriam sang to them:

“Sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.”(C)

Matthew 6:7-15

“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.(A) Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“Pray, then, in this way:

Our Father in heaven,
    may your name be revered as holy.
10     May your kingdom come.
    May your will be done
        on earth as it is in heaven.(B)
11     Give us today our daily bread.[a](C)
12     And forgive us our debts,
        as we also have forgiven our debtors.(D)
13     And do not bring us to the time of trial,[b]
        but rescue us from the evil one.[c](E)

14 “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,(F) 15 but if you do not forgive others,[d] neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.(G)
