Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
8 Then there rose up a new king in Egypt, who did not know Joseph.
9 And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel are greater and mightier than us.
10 “Come, let us work wisely with them, lest they multiply and it happens that if there is war, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us and get themselves out of the land.”
11 Therefore, they set taskmasters over them, to keep them under with burdens. And they built the cities Pithom and Raamses for the treasures of Pharaoh.
12 But the more they burdened them, the more they multiplied and grew. Therefore, they were more grieved against the children of Israel.
13 So, the Egyptians caused the children of Israel to serve by cruelty.
14 Thus, they made them weary of their lives by extreme labor in clay and in brick, and in all work in the field, with all manner of bondage, which they laid upon them most cruelly.
15 Moreover, the king of Egypt commanded the midwives of the Hebrew women (of which one’s name was Shiphrah, and the name of another, Puah)
16 and said, “When you do the office of a midwife to the women of the Hebrews, and see them on their stools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him. But if it is a daughter, then let her live.”
17 Nevertheless, the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them but saved the male children.
18 Then the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this, and have saved the male children?”
19 And the midwives answered Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not as the women of Egypt. For they are vigorous and are delivered before the midwives approach them.”
20 God, therefore, prospered the midwives; and the people multiplied and were very mighty.
21 And therefore, because the midwives feared God, He made them houses.
22 Then, Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, “Cast every male child who is born into the river, but save every female child.”
2 Then, a man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.
2 And the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was fair, she hid him for three months.
3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark for him made of reed, and daubed it with tar and with pitch, and laid the child therein, and put it among the bulrushes, by the river’s edge.
4 Now, his sister stood far off, to see what would become of him.
5 Then, the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself in the river; and her maidens walked by the river’s side. And when she saw the ark among the bulrushes, she sent her maid to fetch it.
6 Then she opened it and saw it was a child. And behold, the baby wept. So, she had compassion on it, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse of the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?”
8 And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So, the maid went and called the child’s mother,
9 to whom Pharaoh’s daughter said, “Take this child away and nurse it for me; and I will reward you.” Then the woman took the child and nursed him.
10 Now the child grew. And she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter. And he was as her son. And she called his name, Moses. “Because” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”
124 If the LORD had not been on our side, (may Israel now say)
2 If the LORD had not been on our side when men rose up against us,
3 they would have swallowed us up quickly when their wrath was kindled against us.
4 Then, the waters had drowned us; the stream had gone over our soul:
5 Then, the swelling waters had gone over our soul.
6 Praise the LORD, Who has not given us as a prey to their teeth!
7 Our soul has escaped, even as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers. The snare is broken and we are delivered.
8 Our help is in the Name of the LORD, Who has made Heaven and Earth. A song of degrees
12 Therefore, I urge you brothers, by the mercies of God, to give up your bodies - a living sacrifice; holy and acceptable to God – as your reasonable service.
2 And do not conform yourselves to this world. But be changed, by the renewing of your mind. So that you may test what the good and acceptable and perfect will of God is.
3 For I say (through the grace that is given to me) to everyone who is among you, that no one think of himself more highly than he ought. But that he judges himself soberly, according to the measure of faith God has dealt him.
4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members do not have the same office,
5 so we (being many) are one body in Christ, and each other’s members.
6 Seeing then that we have diverse gifts, according to the grace given to us—if prophecy, let us prophesy according to the portion of faith,
7 or service, let us serve, or one who teaches, in teaching,
8 or encouragement, in encouraging, in giving, let him do so with simplicity, in leadership, with diligence, in mercy, with cheerfulness—
13 Now when Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 And they said, “Some say John Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the Prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But, whom do you say that I am?”
16 Then Simon Peter answered, and said, “You are the Christ; the Son of the living God.”
17 And Jesus answered, and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon, the son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father Who is in Heaven.
18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter. And upon this rock I will build My Church. And the gates of Hell shall not overcome it.
19 “And I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever you shall bind upon Earth, shall be bound in Heaven. And whatever you shall loose on Earth, shall be loosed in Heaven.”
20 Then He charged His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus, the Christ.
