Psalm 28

Yahweh Is My Strength and My Shield

Of David.

28 To You, O Yahweh, I call;
My (A)rock, do not be silent to me,
Lest if You (B)are hesitant toward me,
I will become like those who (C)go down to the pit.
Hear the (D)voice of my supplications when I cry to You for help,
When I (E)lift up my hands (F)toward [a]Your holy (G)sanctuary.
(H)Do not drag me away with the wicked
And with workers of iniquity,
Who (I)speak peace with their neighbors,
While evil is in their hearts.
Give to them (J)according to their work and according to the evil of their actions;
Give to them according to the deeds of their hands;
Return their dealings upon them.
Because they (K)do not regard the works of Yahweh
Nor the deeds of His hands,
He will tear them down and not build them up.

Blessed be Yahweh,
Because He (L)has heard the voice of my supplications.
Yahweh is my (M)strength and my (N)shield;
My heart (O)trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore (P)my heart exults,
And with (Q)my song I shall thank Him.
Yahweh is [b]their (R)strength,
And He is a [c](S)strong defense of salvation to His anointed.
(T)Save Your people and bless (U)Your inheritance;
Be their (V)shepherd also, and (W)carry them forever.

Genesis 39

Joseph in Potiphar’s House

39 Now Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an Egyptian official of Pharaoh, the captain of the bodyguard, bought him [a]from the (A)Ishmaelites, who had brought him down there. (B)And Yahweh was with Joseph, so he became a [b]successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. Now his master (C)saw that Yahweh was with him and how Yahweh (D)caused all that he did to succeed in his hand. So Joseph (E)found favor in his sight and [c]attended on him; and he appointed him overseer over his house, and (F)all that he owned he gave in his hand. Now it happened that from the time he appointed him overseer in his house and over all that he owned, Yahweh (G)blessed the Egyptian’s house on account of Joseph; thus (H)the blessing of Yahweh was upon all that he owned, in the house and in the field. So he left everything he owned in Joseph’s hand; and with him there he did not [d]concern himself with anything except the [e]food which he [f]ate.

Now Joseph was (I)beautiful in form and beautiful in appearance.

And it happened after these events (J)that his master’s wife [g]set her eyes on Joseph and said, “(K)Lie with me.” But (L)he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, with me here, my master [h]does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has given all that he owns into my hand. [i](M)There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and (N)sin against God?” 10 So it happened that as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to lie beside her or be with her.

11 Now it happened [j]one day that he went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the household was there inside. 12 Then she seized him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me!” And he left his garment in her hand and fled and went outside. 13 Now it happened, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside, 14 that she called to the men of her household and spoke to them, saying, “See, he has brought in a [k]Hebrew to us to laugh at us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I [l]screamed. 15 Now it happened that when he heard that I raised my voice and [m]screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled and went outside.” 16 And she placed his garment beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she (O)spoke to him [n]with these words, saying, “The Hebrew slave, whom you brought to us, came in to me to laugh at me; 18 and as I raised my voice and [o]screamed, he left his garment beside me and fled outside.”

Joseph Is Put into Jail

19 Now it happened that when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, “[p]This is what your slave did to me,” (P)his anger burned. 20 So Joseph’s master took him and (Q)put him into the jail, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined; and he was there in the jail. 21 But (R)Yahweh was with Joseph and [q]extended lovingkindness to him and (S)gave him favor in the sight of the chief jailer. 22 So the chief jailer (T)gave into the hand of Joseph all the prisoners who were in the jail; so that whatever was done there, he was [r]the one who did it. 23 (U)The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph’s hand because (V)Yahweh was with him; and whatever he did, (W)Yahweh made to succeed.

Romans 9:14-29

14 (A)What shall we say then? (B)Is there any unrighteousness with God? (C)May it never be! 15 For He says to Moses, “(D)I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it does not depend on the one who wills or the one who (E)runs, but on (F)God who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “(G)For this very purpose I raised you up, in order to demonstrate My power in you, and in order that My name might be proclaimed [a]throughout the whole earth.” 18 So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He (H)hardens whom He desires.

19 (I)You will say to me then, “(J)Why does He still find fault? For (K)who resists His will?” 20 On the contrary, who are you, (L)O man, who (M)answers back to God? (N)Will the thing molded say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this”? 21 Or does not the potter have authority over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel [b]for honorable use and another [c]for dishonorable use? 22 And [d]what if God, wanting to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much (O)patience vessels of wrath (P)having been prepared for destruction, 23 and in order that He might make known (Q)the riches of His glory upon (R)vessels of mercy, which He (S)prepared beforehand for glory— 24 even us, whom He also (T)called, (U)not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles? 25 As He says also in Hosea,

(V)I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’
And her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’”
26 (W)And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘you are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of (X)the living God.”

27 And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “(Y)Though the number of the sons of Israel be (Z)like the sand of the sea, it is (AA)the remnant that will be saved; 28 (AB)for the Lord will execute His word on the land, [e]thoroughly and [f]quickly.” 29 And just as Isaiah foretold,

(AC)Unless (AD)the Lord of [g]Sabaoth had left to us a seed,
(AE)We would have become like Sodom, and would have [h]resembled Gomorrah.”
