Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Heth
57 Yahweh is my (A)portion;
I have [a]promised to (B)keep Your words.
58 I have (C)sought to please Your face (D)with all my heart;
(E)Be gracious to me (F)according to Your [b]word.
59 I (G)thought upon my ways
And I turned my feet to Your testimonies.
60 I hastened and did not delay
To keep Your commandments.
61 The (H)cords of the wicked have encircled me,
But I have (I)not forgotten Your law.
62 At (J)midnight I shall rise to give thanks to You
Because of Your (K)righteous judgments.
63 I am a (L)companion of all those who [c]fear You,
And of those who keep Your precepts.
64 (M)The earth, O Yahweh, is full of Your lovingkindness;
(N)Teach me Your statutes.
11 Like apples of gold in settings of silver
Is a (A)word spoken in [a]right circumstances.
12 Like [b]an (B)earring of gold and an (C)ornament of (D)fine gold
Is a wise reprover to a (E)listening ear.
13 Like the cold of snow in the [c]time of harvest
Is a (F)faithful envoy to those who send him,
For he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14 Like (G)clouds and (H)wind without rain
Is a man who boasts [d]of his gifts falsely.
15 (I)When one is slow to anger, a ruler may be persuaded,
And a soft tongue breaks the bone.
16 Have you (J)found honey? Eat only enough for you,
Lest you have more than your fill and vomit it.
17 Let your foot rarely be in your neighbor’s house,
Lest he have more than his fill of you and hate you.
18 Like a club and a (K)sword and a sharp (L)arrow
Is a man who bears [e](M)false witness against his neighbor.
19 Like [f]an aching tooth and a slipping foot
Is trust in a (N)treacherous man in a day of distress.
20 Like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on [g]soda,
Is he who sings songs to [h]an aching heart.
21 (O)If [i]your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 For you will [j]heap burning coals on his head,
And (P)Yahweh will repay you.
9 Let (A)love be without hypocrisy—by (B)abhorring what is evil, clinging to what is good, 10 being (C)devoted to one another in brotherly love, [a]giving preference to one another (D)in honor, 11 not lagging behind in diligence, being (E)fervent in spirit, (F)serving the Lord, 12 (G)rejoicing in hope, (H)persevering in affliction, being (I)devoted to prayer, 13 (J)contributing to the needs of the [b]saints, (K)pursuing hospitality.
14 (L)Bless those who persecute [c]you; bless, and do not curse. 15 (M)Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep, 16 by (N)being of the same mind toward one another, (O)not being haughty in mind, but [d]associating with the humble. (P)Do not be wise in your own mind. 17 (Q)Never paying back evil for evil to anyone, [e](R)respecting what is good in the sight of all men, 18 if possible, (S)so far as it depends on you, (T)being at peace with all men, 19 (U)never taking your own revenge, beloved—instead [f]leave room for the wrath of God. For it is written, “(V)Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 “(W)But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
