Hannah’s Song of Thanksgiving

Then Hannah (A)prayed and said,

“My heart exults in the Lord;
(B)My [a]horn is exalted in the Lord,
My mouth [b]speaks boldly against my enemies,
Because (C)I rejoice in Your salvation.
(D)There is no one holy like the Lord,
Indeed, (E)there is no one besides You,
(F)Nor is there any rock like our God.
[c]Boast no more so very proudly,
(G)Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth;
(H)For the Lord is a God of knowledge,
(I)And with Him actions are weighed.
(J)The bows of the mighty are shattered,
(K)But the feeble gird on strength.
“Those who were full hire themselves out for bread,
But those who were hungry cease to hunger.
(L)Even the barren gives birth to seven,
But (M)she who has many children languishes.
(N)The Lord kills and makes alive;
(O)He brings down to [d]Sheol and raises up.
(P)The Lord makes poor and rich;
(Q)He brings low, He also exalts.
(R)He raises the poor from the dust,
(S)He lifts the needy from the ash heap
(T)To make them sit with nobles,
And inherit a seat of honor;
(U)For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
And He set the world on them.
(V)He keeps the feet of His godly ones,
(W)But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness;
(X)For not by might shall a man prevail.
10 (Y)Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered;
(Z)Against them He will thunder in the heavens,
(AA)The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;
(AB)And He will give strength to His king,
(AC)And will exalt the [e]horn of His anointed.”

Genesis 37:2-11

These are the records of the generations of Jacob.

Joseph, when (A)seventeen years of age, was pasturing the flock with his brothers while he was still a youth, along with (B)the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives. And Joseph brought back a (C)bad report about them to their father. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was (D)the son of his old age; and he made him a [a](E)varicolored tunic. His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers; and so they (F)hated him and could not speak to him [b]on friendly terms.

Then Joseph [c](G)had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. He said to them, “Please listen to this dream which I have [d]had; for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf rose up and also stood erect; and behold, your sheaves gathered around and (H)bowed down to my sheaf.” Then his brothers said to him, “(I)Are you actually going to reign over us? Or are you really going to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

Now he [e]had still another dream, and related it to his brothers, and said, “Lo, I have [f]had still another dream; and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 He related it to his father and to his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have [g]had? Shall I and your mother and (J)your brothers actually come to bow ourselves down before you to the ground?” 11 (K)His brothers were jealous of him, but his father (L)kept the saying in mind.

Matthew 1:1-17

The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah

The [a]record of the genealogy of [b]Jesus [c]the Messiah, (A)the son of David, (B)the son of Abraham:

Abraham [d]was the father of Isaac, [e]Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of [f]Judah and his brothers. Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, (C)Perez was the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of [g]Ram. Ram was the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, Boaz was the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse. Jesse was the father of David the king.

David (D)was the father of Solomon by [h]Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah. Solomon (E)was the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of [i]Asa. Asa was the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of [j]Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah. Uzziah was the father of [k]Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah. 10 Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of [l]Amon, and Amon the (F)father of Josiah. 11 Josiah became the father of [m]Jeconiah and his brothers, at the time of the (G)deportation to Babylon.

12 After the (H)deportation to Babylon: Jeconiah became the father of [n]Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel. 13 Zerubbabel was the father of [o]Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor. 14 Azor was the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud. 15 Eliud was the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob. 16 Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, (I)who is called [p]the Messiah.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the (J)deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the (K)deportation to Babylon to [q]the Messiah, fourteen generations.
