Psalm 68:1-10

The God of Sinai and of the Sanctuary.

For the music director. A Psalm of David. A Song.

68 [a]May (A)God arise, [b]may His enemies be scattered,
And [c]may those who hate Him flee from His presence.
As (B)smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
As (C)wax melts before a fire,
So the (D)wicked will perish before God.
But the (E)righteous will be joyful; they will rejoice before God;
Yes, they will rejoice with gladness.
Sing to God, (F)sing praises to His name;
[d](G)Exalt Him who (H)rides through the deserts,
Whose (I)name is [e]the Lord, and be jubilant before Him.

A (J)father of the fatherless and a (K)judge [f]for the widows,
Is God in His (L)holy dwelling.
God [g](M)makes a home for the lonely;
He (N)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only (O)the rebellious live in parched lands.

God, when You (P)went forth before Your people,
When You (Q)marched through the desert, Selah
The (R)earth quaked;
The (S)heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
[h](T)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
You (U)made plentiful rain fall, God;
You confirmed Your inheritance when it was [i]parched.
10 Your creatures settled in it;
In Your kindness You (V)provided for the poor, God.

Psalm 68:19-20

19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily (A)bears our burden,
(B)The God who is our salvation. Selah
20 God is to us a (C)God of salvation;
And (D)to [a]God the Lord belong ways of escape [b]from death.

Job 24:9-25

Others snatch an (A)orphan from the breast,
And they seize it as a pledge against the poor.
10 The poor move about naked without clothing,
And they carry sheaves, while going hungry.
11 Within the walls they produce oil;
They tread wine presses but go thirsty.
12 From the city people groan,
And the souls of the wounded cry for help;
Yet God (B)does not pay attention to the offensiveness.

13 [a]Others have been with those who rebel against the light;
They do not want to know its ways
Nor stay in its paths.
14 The murderer (C)arises at dawn;
He (D)kills the poor and the needy,
And at night he is like a thief.
15 The eye of the (E)adulterer watches for [b]twilight,
Saying, ‘No eye will see me.’
And he [c]disguises his face.
16 In the darkness they (F)dig into houses,
They (G)shut themselves up by day;
They do not know the light.
17 For the morning is the same to him as thick darkness,
For he is familiar with the (H)terrors of thick darkness.

18 “They are [d](I)insignificant on the surface of the water;
Their plot of land on the earth is (J)cursed.
They do not turn [e]toward the (K)vineyards.
19 Dryness and heat (L)snatch away the snow waters,
As [f](M)Sheol snatches those who have sinned.
20 A [g](N)mother will forget him;
The (O)maggot feeds sweetly until he is (P)no longer remembered.
And injustice will be broken (Q)like a tree.
21 He wrongs the [h]infertile woman,
And does no good for (R)the widow.
22 But He drags off the mighty by (S)His power;
He rises, but (T)no one has assurance of life.
23 He provides them (U)with security, and they are supported;
And His (V)eyes are on their ways.
24 They are exalted a (W)little while, then they are gone;
Moreover, they are (X)brought low, and like everything they are gathered up;
Like the heads of grain they wither.
25 Now if it is not so, (Y)who can prove me a liar,
And make my speech worthless?”

Galatians 2:11-14

Peter (Cephas) Opposed by Paul

11 But when (A)Cephas came to (B)Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he [a]stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of some men from [b](C)James, he used to (D)eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and separate himself, (E)fearing those from the circumcision. 13 The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even (F)Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they (G)were not [c]straightforward about (H)the truth of the gospel, I said to (I)Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, (J)live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?[d]
