Let God’s Enemies Be Scattered
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
68 [a]Let (A)God arise, [b]let His enemies be scattered,
And [c]let those who hate Him flee before Him.
2 As (B)smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
As (C)wax melts before the fire,
So let the (D)wicked perish before God.
3 But let the (E)righteous be glad; let them exult before God;
And let them rejoice with gladness.
4 Sing to God, (F)sing praises to His name;
[d](G)Lift up a song for Him who (H)rides through the deserts,
Whose (I)name is [e]Yah, and exult before Him.
5 A (J)father of the fatherless and a (K)judge [f]for the widows,
Is God in His (L)holy habitation.
6 God (M)causes the lonely to inhabit a home;
He (N)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only (O)the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
7 O God, when You (P)went forth before Your people,
When You (Q)marched through the wasteland, [g]Selah.
8 The (R)earth quaked;
The (S)heavens also dripped rain at the presence of God;
[h](T)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 You (U)caused abundant rain to sprinkle down, O God;
You established Your inheritance when it was [i]parched.
10 Your creatures inhabited it;
You (V)established it in Your goodness for the poor, O God.
9 [a]Others snatch the (A)orphan from the breast,
And against the afflicted they take a pledge.
10 Those poor ones walk about naked without clothing,
And hungry ones carry the sheaves.
11 Within the walls they produce oil;
They tread wine presses but thirst.
12 From the city men groan,
And the souls of the wounded cry out;
Yet God (B)does not pay attention to such offense.
13 “[b]Others have been with those who rebel against the light;
They do not want to recognize its ways
Nor abide in its paths.
14 The murderer (C)arises at dawn;
He (D)kills the afflicted and the needy,
And at night he is as a thief.
15 The eye of the (E)adulterer keeps watch for the twilight,
Saying, ‘No eye will see me.’
And he [c]keeps his face hidden.
16 In the dark they (F)dig into houses;
They (G)shut themselves up by day;
They do not know the light.
17 For the morning is the same to him as the shadow of death,
For he recognizes the (H)terrors of the shadow of death.
18 “[d]They are [e](I)insignificant on the surface of the water;
Their portion is (J)cursed on the earth.
They do not turn [f]toward the (K)vineyards.
19 Drought and heat (L)seize the snow waters,
So does (M)Sheol those who have sinned.
20 A [g](N)mother will forget him;
The (O)worm feasts sweetly till he is (P)no longer remembered.
And unrighteousness will be broken (Q)like a tree.
21 He feeds on the barren woman who does not give birth
And does no good for (R)the widow.
22 But He drags off the mighty by (S)His power;
He rises, but (T)no one believes in his life.
23 He provides them (U)with security, and they are supported;
And His (V)eyes are on their ways.
24 They are exalted a (W)little while, then they are gone;
Moreover, they are (X)brought low and like everything gathered up;
Even like the heads of grain they are cut off.
25 Now if it is not so, (Y)who can prove me a liar,
And make my speech worthless?”
Paul Opposes Peter (Cephas)
11 But when (A)Cephas came to (B)Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he [a]stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from (C)James, he used to (D)eat with the Gentiles, but when they came, he began to shrink back and separate himself, (E)fearing [b]the party of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even (F)Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they (G)were not [c]straightforward about (H)the truth of the gospel, I said to (I)Cephas before everyone, “If you, being a Jew, (J)live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?[d]
