Psalm 96

A Call to Worship the Lord

96 Sing to the Lord a new song. Let all the earth sing to the Lord. Sing to the Lord. Honor His name. Make His saving power known from day to day. Tell of His shining-greatness among the nations. Tell of His wonderful works among all the people. For the Lord is great and should be given much praise. He is to be honored with fear above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are false gods. But the Lord made the heavens. Honor and great power are with Him. Strength and beauty are in His holy place.

Give to the Lord, O families of the nations, give to the Lord the honor and strength that He should have. Give to the Lord the honor of His name. Bring a gift and come into His holy place. Worship the Lord in holy clothing. May all the earth shake in fear before Him. 10 Say among the nations that the Lord rules. The world is built to last. It will not be moved. He will be right when He says who is guilty or not.

11 Let the heavens be glad. And let the earth be full of joy. Let the sea and all that is in it make a loud noise. 12 Let the fields and all that is in them be full of joy. Then all the trees of the land will sing for joy 13 before the Lord. For He is coming. He is coming to say who is guilty or not on the earth. He will be right in what He decides about the world. And He will be faithful to the people.

1 Kings 16:29-34

Ahab Rules Israel

29 Omri’s son Ahab became king of Israel in the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah. He ruled over Israel in Samaria for twenty-two years. 30 Ahab the son of Omri did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord more than all who were before him. 31 He thought it was a small thing to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. He married Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians. Then he went to serve the false god Baal and worshiped him. 32 He built an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he built in Samaria. 33 Ahab made an object of wood to look like the false goddess Asherah. So Ahab did more to make the Lord God of Israel angry than all the kings of Israel before him. 34 In his days Hiel the Bethelite built Jericho. His first-born son Abiram died as he began to build the city. His youngest son Segub died as he put up its gates. It happened as it was told by the word of the Lord spoken by Joshua the son of Nun.

2 Corinthians 11:1-6

Paul—the True Missionary

11 I wish you would listen to a little foolish talk from me. Now listen. I am jealous for you with a God-like jealousy. I have given you, as a woman who has never had a man, to one Husband, Who is Christ. Eve was fooled by the snake in the garden of Eden. In the same way, I am afraid that you will be fooled and led away from your pure love for Christ. You listen when someone comes and preaches a different Jesus than the One we preached. You believe what you hear about a different spirit and different good news than that which we preached.

I do not think I am less than those special missionaries who are coming to you. Even if it is hard for me to speak, I know what I am talking about. You know this by now.
