Hannah’s Triumphant Prayer
2 Hannah prayed:(A)
My heart rejoices in the Lord;(B)
my horn is lifted up by the Lord.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
because I rejoice in your salvation.(C)
2 There is no one holy like the Lord.(D)
There is no one besides you!(E)
And there is no rock like our God.(F)
3 Do not boast so proudly,
or let arrogant words come out of your mouth,
for the Lord is a God of knowledge,
and actions are weighed by him.(G)
4 The bows of the warriors are broken,(H)
but the feeble are clothed with strength.(I)
5 Those who are full hire themselves out for food,
but those who are starving hunger no more.
The woman who is childless gives birth to seven,(J)
but the woman with many sons pines away.(K)
6 The Lord brings death and gives life;(L)
he sends some down to Sheol, and he raises others up.(M)
7 The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth;(N)
he humbles and he exalts.(O)
8 He raises the poor from the dust(P)
and lifts the needy from the trash heap.(Q)
He seats them with noblemen(R)
and gives them a throne of honor.[a]
For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;(S)
he has set the world on them.(T)
9 He guards the steps[b] of his faithful ones,(U)
but the wicked perish in darkness,(V)
for a person does not prevail by his own strength.(W)
10 Those who oppose the Lord will be shattered;[c](X)
he will thunder in the heavens against them.(Y)
The Lord will judge the ends of the earth.(Z)
He will give power to his king;
he will lift up the horn of his anointed.[d](AA)
18 Samuel served in the Lord’s presence(A)—this mere boy was dressed in the linen ephod.(B) 19 Each year his mother made him a little robe(C) and took it to him when she went with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice.(D) 20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife:(E) “May the Lord give you children by this woman in place of the one she[a] has given to the Lord.”(F) Then they would go home.
21 The Lord paid attention to Hannah’s need,(G) and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the Lord.(H)
6 So then, just as you have received(A) Christ Jesus as Lord,(B) continue to walk in him, 7 being rooted and built up in him(C) and established in the faith, just as you were taught,(D) and overflowing with gratitude.
8 Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition,(E) based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.(F) 9 For the entire fullness(G) of God’s nature dwells bodily[a] in Christ, 10 and you have been filled by him, who is the head(H) over every ruler and authority. 11 You were also circumcised in him with a circumcision not done with hands, by putting off the body of flesh,(I) in the circumcision of Christ,(J) 12 when you were buried with him(K) in baptism, in which you were also raised with him(L) through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.(M) 13 And when you were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive with him and forgave us all our trespasses. 14 He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it away by nailing it to the cross.(N) 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; he triumphed over them in him.[b](O)
