Psalm 69:1-3

A Cry of Distress and a Curse on Adversaries.

For the music director; according to [a]Shoshannim. A Psalm of David.

69 Save me, God,
For the (A)waters have [b]threatened my life.
I have sunk in deep (B)mud, and there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters, and a [c](C)flood overflows me.
I am (D)weary with my crying; my throat is parched;
My (E)eyes fail while I wait for my God.

Psalm 69:13-16

13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, (A)at an acceptable time;
God, in the (B)greatness of Your mercy,
Answer me with [a]Your saving truth.
14 Rescue me from the (C)mud and do not let me sink;
May I be (D)rescued from those who hate me, and from the (E)depths of water.
15 May the [b](F)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the (G)pit close its mouth on me.

16 Answer me, Lord, for (H)Your mercy is good;
(I)According to the greatness of Your compassion, (J)turn to me,

Psalm 69:30-36

30 I will (A)praise the name of God with song,
And (B)exalt Him with (C)thanksgiving.
31 And it will (D)please the Lord better than an ox
Or bull with horns and hoofs.
32 The (E)humble [a]have seen it and are glad;
You who seek God, (F)let your heart [b]revive.
33 For (G)the Lord hears the needy,
And (H)does not despise those of His who are prisoners.

34 (I)Heaven and earth shall praise Him,
The seas and (J)everything that moves in them.
35 For God will (K)save Zion and (L)build the cities of Judah,
So that they may live there and (M)possess it.
36 The [c](N)descendants of His servants will inherit it,
And those who love His name (O)will live in it.

Genesis 4:17-5:5

17 Cain [a]had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and Cain built a city, and named the city Enoch, after the name of his son. 18 Now to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 Lamech took (A)two wives for himself: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other, Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and flute. 22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 Lamech said to his wives,

“Adah and Zillah,
Listen to my voice,
You wives of Lamech,
Pay attention to my words,
(B)For I have killed a man for wounding me;
And a boy for striking me!
24 If Cain is avenged (C)seven times,
Then Lamech seventy-seven times!”

25 (D)Adam [b]had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him [c]Seth, for, she said, “God [d]has appointed me another [e]child in place of Abel, (E)because Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth also (F)a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then people began (G)to call [f]upon the name of the Lord.

Descendants of Adam

This is the book of the generations of Adam. On the day when God created man, He made him (H)in the likeness of God. He created them (I)male and female, and He (J)blessed them and named them “mankind” on the day when they were created.

When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. Then the days of Adam after he fathered Seth were eight hundred years, and he fathered other sons and daughters. So all the days that Adam lived were 930 years, and he died.

Romans 3:9-22

What then? [a](A)Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both (B)Jews and (C)Greeks are (D)all under sin; 10 as it is written:

(E)There is no righteous person, not even one;
11 There is no one who understands,
There is no one who seeks out God;
12 They have all turned aside, together they have become [b]corrupt;
There is no one who does good,
There is not even one.”
13 (F)Their throat is an open grave,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,”
(G)The venom of [c]asps is under their lips”;
14 (H)Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”;
15 (I)Their feet are swift to shed blood,
16 Destruction and misery are in their paths,
17 And they have not known the way of peace.”
18 (J)There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

19 Now we know that whatever the (K)Law says, it speaks to (L)those who are [d]under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and (M)all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because (N)by the works [e]of the Law [f]none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for [g](O)through the Law comes [h]knowledge of sin.

Justification by Faith

21 But now apart [i]from the Law (P)the righteousness of God has been revealed, being (Q)witnessed by the [j]Law and the Prophets, 22 but it is the (R)righteousness of God through (S)faith (T)in Jesus Christ for (U)all those [k]who believe; for (V)there is no distinction,
