Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
69 1 The complaints, prayers, fervent zeal and great anguish of David is set forth as a figure of Christ and all his members. 21 The malicious cruelty of the enemies. 22 And their punishment also. 26 Where Judas and such traitors are accursed. 30 He gathereth courage in his affliction, and offereth praises unto God, 32 Which are more acceptable than all sacrifices: whereof all the afflicted may take comfort. 35 Finally, he doth provoke all creatures to praises, prophesying of the kingdom of Christ, and the preservation of the Church, where all the faithful, 27 And their seed shall dwell forever.
To him that excelleth upon [a]Shoshannim. A Psalm of David.
1 Save me, O God: for the [b]waters are entered even to my soul.
2 I stick fast in the deep mire, where no [c]stay is: I am come into deep waters, and the streams run over me.
3 I am weary of crying: my throat is dry: mine [d]eyes fail, while I wait for my God.
13 But Lord, I make my prayer unto thee in an [a]acceptable time, even in the multitude of thy mercy: O God, hear me in the truth of thy salvation.
14 Deliver me out of the mire, that I sink not: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the [b]deep waters.
15 Let not the water flood drown me, neither let the deep swallow me up: and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
16 Hear me, O Lord, for thy loving-kindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
30 I will praise the Name of God with a song, and magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the Lord better than a [a]young bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
32 The humble shall see this, and they that seek God shall be glad, and your heart shall live.
33 For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his [b]prisoners.
34 Let heaven and earth praise him: the seas and all that moveth in them.
35 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah, that men may dwell there and have it in possession.
36 The [c]seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.
17 Cain also knew his wife, which conceived and bore Enoch: and he built a [a]city, and called the name of the city by the name of his son, Enoch.
18 And to Enoch was born Irad, and Irad begat Mehujael, and Mehujael begat Methushael, and Methushael begat Lamech.
19 ¶ And Lamech took to him [b]two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20 And Adah bare Jabal, who was the [c]father of such as dwell in the tents, and of such as have cattle.
21 And his brother’s name was Jubal, who was the father of all that play on the harp and [d]organs.
22 And Zillah also bore Tubal-Cain, who wrought cunningly every craft of brass and of iron: and the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
23 Then Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech; hearken unto my speech: [e]for I would slay a man in my wound, and a young man to mine hurt.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech [f]seventy times sevenfold.
25 ¶ And Adam knew his wife again, and she bare a son, and she called his name Seth: for God, said she, hath appointed me another seed for Abel, because Cain slew him.
26 And to the same Seth also there was born a son, and he called his name Enosh. Then began men to [g]call upon the name of the Lord.
5 The genealogy. 5 The age and death of Adam. 6 His succeession unto Noah and his children. 24 Enoch was taken away.
1 This is the [h]book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created Adam, in the [i]likeness of God made he him,
2 Male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called their name [j]Adam in the day that they were created.
3 ¶ Now Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a child in his own [k]likeness after his image, and called his name Seth.
4 (A)And the days of Adam, after he had begotten Seth, were eight hundred years, and he begat sons and daughters.
5 So all the days that Adam lived, were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.
9 [a]What then? are we more excellent? No, in no wise: for we have already proved, that all, both Jews and Gentiles are [b]under sin,
10 As it is written, (A)There is none righteous no not one.
11 There is none that understandeth: there is none that seeketh God.
12 They have all gone out of the way: they have been made altogether unprofitable: there is none that doeth good, no not one.
13 (B)Their throat is an open sepulcher: they have used their tongues to deceit: (C)the poison of asps is under their lips.
14 (D)Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.
15 (E)Their feet are swift to shed blood.
16 Destruction and calamity are in their ways:
17 And the [c]way of peace they have not known.
18 (F)The fear of God is not before their eyes.
19 [d]Now we know that whatsoever the [e]law saith, it saith it to them which are under the law, that [f]every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be [g]subject to the judgment of God.
20 Therefore by the [h]works of the Law shall no [i]flesh be [j]justified in his [k]sight: for by the Law cometh the knowledge of sin.
21 [l]But now is the righteousness of God made manifest without the Law, having witness of the Law, and of the Prophets,
22 [m]To wit, the righteousness of God by the faith of [n]Jesus Christ, unto all, and upon all that believe.
