Genesis 6:9-22

Parashat Noah

These are the genealogies of Noah. Noah was a righteous man. He was blameless among his generation. Noah continually walked with God. 10 Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was ruined before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 God saw the earth, and behold it was ruined because all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.

Instructions for the Ark

13 Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh is coming before Me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Behold, I am about to bring ruin upon them along with the land. 14 Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood. You shall make the ark with compartments and smear pitch on it, both inside and out. 15 Now this is how you shall make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. 16 You shall make a roof for the ark, and you shall finish it to within a cubit from the top. You shall put the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third stories. [a] 17 Now I am about to bring the flood—water upon the land—to destroy all flesh in which is the spirit of life from under the sky. Everything that is on the land will perish. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you. So you shall come into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 Also of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of everything—male and female—into the ark to keep alive with you. 20 Of the flying creatures according to their kind, of the livestock according to their kind, of all the crawling creatures of the ground according to their kind—two of everything will come to you to keep them alive. 21 As for you: take for yourself every kind of edible food and gather it to yourself. It will be food for you and for them.”

22 So Noah did according to all that God commanded him; he did so exactly.

Genesis 7:24

24 The waters overpowered the land for 150 days.

Genesis 8:14-19

14 By the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the land was dry.

Noah’s Soothing Sacrifice

15 Then God spoke to Noah, saying, 16 “Come out of the ark, you and your wife, your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 17 Every animal that is with you of all flesh, including the flying creatures, livestock and every crawling creature that crawls on the land, bring out with you, and let them swarm in the land and be fruitful and multiply upon the land.”

18 So Noah came out, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives. 19 Every animal—every crawling creature, every flying creature, everything that crawls upon the land—came out from the ark in their families.

Psalm 46

He Makes Wars Cease

Psalm 46

For the music director, of the sons of Korah, according to Alamoth, a song.
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth change,
though the mountains topple into the heart of the seas,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains quake at their swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God—
the holy dwelling place of Elyon.[a]
God is in the midst of her, she will not be shaken.
God will help her when morning dawns.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms totter,
He utters His voice, the earth melts!
Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us.
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah

Come, see the works of Adonai,
who brings devastations on the earth.
10 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear.
He burns chariots with fire.
11 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I am exalted among the nations.
I am exalted in the earth.”
12 Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us.
The God of Jacob is our strong tower. Selah

Romans 1:16-17

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who trusts—to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 In it the righteousness of God is revealed, from trust to trust.[a] As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by emunah.”[b]

Romans 3:22-28

22 namely, the righteousness of God through putting trust in Messiah Yeshua,[a] to all who keep on trusting. For there is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. 24 They are set right as a gift of His grace, through the redemption that is in Messiah Yeshua. [b] 25 God set forth Yeshua as an atonement,[c] through faith in His blood, to show His righteousness in passing over sins already committed. 26 Through God’s forbearance, He demonstrates His righteousness at the present time—that He Himself is just and also the justifier of the one who puts his trust in Yeshua.[d]

27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. By what principle? Of works? No, but by the principle of faith. [e] 28 For we consider a person to be set right apart from Torah observance.

Romans 3:29-31

29 Is God the God of the Jewish people only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also. 30 Since God is One, He will set right the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then nullify the Torah through faithfulness? May it never be! On the contrary, we uphold the Torah.

Matthew 7:21-29

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord!’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, and drive out demons in Your name, and perform many miracles in Your name?’ 23 Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Get away from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’”[a]

Building on a Firm Foundation

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and yet it did not fall, for its foundation had been built on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

28 Now when Yeshua had finished these words, the crowds were astounded at His teaching, 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority and not as their Torah scholars.
