הבשורה על-פי לוקס 21:34-36

34 "היזהרו לכם - אל תאבדו את הראש בשכרות, בבזבזנות, בתענוגות ובדאגות מחייה, פן יבוא עליכם היום ההוא במפתיע, כמלכודת. 35 היום ההוא יבוא על כל יושבי תבל! 36 משום כך שימרו תמיד על ערנותכם, והתפללו שאלוהים יעניק לכם כוח לצאת בשלום מכל העתיד להתרחש, ולהתייצב לפני בן-האדם." יום-יום הלך ישוע ללמד בבית-המקדש, והעם היה מתאסף בהמונים משעות הבוקר המוקדמות כדי להקשיב לדבריו. בלילות נהג ישוע ללכת לישון על הר הזיתים.
