Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Worship in the Splendor of Holiness
96 (A)Oh sing to the Lord (B)a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
(C)tell of his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
4 For (D)great is the Lord, and (E)greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above (F)all gods.
5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord (G)made the heavens.
6 Splendor and majesty are before him;
(H)strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
7 Ascribe to the Lord, O (I)families of the peoples,
(J)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
8 Ascribe to the Lord (K)the glory due his name;
bring (L)an offering, and (M)come into his courts!
9 Worship the Lord in (N)the splendor of holiness;[a]
(O)tremble before him, all the earth!
10 Say among the nations, (P)“The Lord reigns!
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
he will (Q)judge the peoples with equity.”
11 Let (R)the heavens be glad, and let (S)the earth rejoice;
let (T)the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12 let (U)the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all (V)the trees of the forest sing for joy
13 before the Lord, for he comes,
for he comes (W)to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
and the peoples in his faithfulness.
8 “Therefore (A)wait for me,” declares the Lord,
“for the day when I rise up to seize the prey.
For my decision is (B)to gather nations,
to assemble kingdoms,
to pour out upon them my indignation,
all my burning anger;
for in the fire of my jealousy
(C)all the earth shall be consumed.
The Conversion of the Nations
9 “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples
to (D)a pure speech,
that all of them may call upon the name of the Lord
and serve him with one accord.
10 (E)From beyond the rivers (F)of Cush
my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones,
shall bring my offering.
11 (G)“On that day (H)you shall not be put to shame
because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me;
for then (I)I will remove from your midst
your proudly exultant ones,
and (J)you shall no longer be haughty
in my holy mountain.
12 But I will leave in your midst
a people (K)humble and lowly.
(L)They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord,
13 (M)those who are left in Israel;
they (N)shall do no injustice
and speak no lies,
(O)nor shall there be found in their mouth
a deceitful tongue.
(P)For they shall graze and lie down,
and none shall make them afraid.”
The Message of Salvation to All
5 For (A)Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that (B)the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But (C)the righteousness based on faith says, (D)“Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the (E)abyss?’” (that is, (F)to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? (G)“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if (H)you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and (I)believe in your heart (J)that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, (K)“Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 (L)For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; (M)for the same Lord is Lord of all, (N)bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For (O)“everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
