Psalm 79

The Nation Cries for Jerusalem

A psalm of Asaph [C a Levitical musician, a descendant of Gershon, at the time of David; 1 Chr. 6:39; 15:17; 2 Chr. 5:12].

79 God, nations have come against your ·chosen people [L inheritance].
    They have ·ruined [profaned] your holy Temple.
    They have turned Jerusalem into ·ruins [a dump; 2 Kin. 25:9–10].
They have given the bodies of your servants as food to the ·wild birds [L birds of the sky/heavens].
They have given the ·bodies [L flesh] of ·those who worship you [your faithful ones; saints] to the wild animals [Jer. 34:20].
They have spilled blood like water all around Jerusalem.
    No one was left to bury the dead.
We are a ·joke [reproach; scorn] to the ·other nations [L residents];
    ·they [L the people around us] ·laugh [ridicule] and make fun of us.

Lord, how long?
    Will you be angry forever?
    How long will your jealousy burn like a fire?
·Be angry with [L Pour out your wrath on] the nations that do not know you
    and ·with [or on] the kingdoms that do not ·honor you [L call on your name].
They have ·gobbled up [devoured] the people of Jacob
    and ·destroyed [desolated] their ·land [pasturage].
Don’t ·punish us for our past sins [L remember our former guilt].
    Show your ·mercy [compassion] to us soon,
    because we are ·helpless [very low]!
God our ·Savior [Victor], help us
    ·so people will praise you [L for the glory of your name].
·Save [Protect] us and ·forgive [atone for] our sins
    ·so people will honor you [L for your name].
10 Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”
·Tell [Inform] the other nations ·in our presence [L before our eyes]
    that you ·punish [avenge] ·those who kill your servants [L the blood of your servants that has been poured out].
11 ·Hear the moans of the prisoners [Let the groans of the prisoner come before you].
    Use your great ·power [L arm]
to save those ·sentenced [doomed] to die.

12 Repay ·those around [L into the bosom of those around] us seven times over
    for their ·insults to [reproach/scorn of] you, Lord.
13 We are your people, the sheep of your ·flock [pasture].
    We will ·thank [praise] you always;
·forever and ever [from generation to generation] we ·will praise you [L recount your praise].

Micah 4:1-5

The Mountain of the Lord

In the last days
    the mountain ·on which the Lord’s Temple stands [L of the house of the Lord]
    will become the ·most important [L head] of all mountains.
It will be raised above the hills,
    and people from other nations will come streaming to it.
Many nations will come and say,
    “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    to the ·Temple [L house] of the God of Jacob,
so that he can teach us his ways,
    and we can ·obey his teachings [L walk in his paths].”
His ·teachings [instruction; law; L Torah] will go out from ·Jerusalem [L Zion],
    the word of the Lord from ·that city [L Jerusalem].
The Lord will ·judge [or arbitrate between] many nations;
    he will ·make decisions about [settle disputes between] strong nations that are far away.
They will ·hammer [beat] their swords into ·plow blades [T plowshares]
    and their spears into ·hooks for trimming trees [pruning hooks; Is. 2:4; Joel 3:10].
Nations will no longer raise swords against other nations;
    they will not train for war anymore.
Everyone will sit under his own grapevine and fig tree [C symbols of prosperity],
    and no one will make him afraid,
    because the Lord ·All-Powerful [Almighty; of Heaven’s Armies; T of hosts] has said it.
All other nations ·may follow [L walk in the name of] their own gods,
    but we will ·follow [L walk in the name of] the Lord our God forever and ever.

Revelation 15

The Last Troubles

15 Then I saw another ·wonder [sign; miracle; portent] in heaven that was great and amazing. There were seven angels bringing seven ·disasters [plagues]. These are the last ·disasters [plagues], because ·after [or in] them, God’s ·anger [wrath] is ·finished [completed; ended].

I saw what looked like a sea of glass [1 Kin. 7:23–26; Ezek. 1:22] mixed with fire [19:20; 20:10]. All of those who had ·won the victory over [conquered] the beast and his ·idol [image] and over the number of his name [13:17] were standing by the sea of glass. They had harps ·that God had given them [L of/from God]. They sang the song of Moses [Ex. 15:1; Deut. 31:30], the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb:

“·You do great and wonderful things [L Great and marvelous/amazing are your works; Ps. 111:2],
    Lord God ·Almighty [All-powerful].
·Everything the Lord does is [L Your ways are] ·right [just] and true [Ps. 145:17],
    King of the nations.[a]
  ·Everyone will respect you [L Who will not fear you…?], Lord [Jer. 10:7],
    and ·will honor you [L honor/glorify your name].
[L Because; For] Only you are holy.
All the nations will come
    and worship [L before] you [Ps. 86:9–10],
because the right things you have done
    are now made known [Deut. 32:4].”

After ·this [L these things] I saw that the temple (the ·Tent [Tabernacle] of the ·Agreement [Testimony; Covenant Law]) in heaven was opened. And the seven angels bringing the seven ·disasters [plagues] came out of the temple. They were dressed in ·clean [pure], ·shining [bright] linen and wore golden ·bands [sashes] tied around their chests [C garments worn by priests]. Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the ·anger [wrath] of God, who lives forever and ever. The temple was filled with smoke [C smoke often symbolizes the presence of God; Ex. 40:34–38] from the glory and the power of God, and no one could enter the temple until the seven ·disasters [plagues] of the seven angels were ·finished [completed; ended; C accomplished their purpose].
