Psalm 28

A Prayer for Help, and Joy in Its Answer

A psalm of David.[a]

28 To you, O Yahweh, I call.
O my rock, do not be deaf to me.
Or else, if you are silent to me,
then I will become like those descending to the pit.
Hear the voice of my supplications
when I cry to you for help,
when I lift up my hands
toward your holy inner sanctuary.
Do not drag me away with the wicked
or with the workers of evil,
who speak of peace with their neighbors,
while evil is in their heart.
Give to them according to their work,
even according to the evil of their deeds.
Give to them according to the work of their hands;
repay them their rightful due.
Because they do not regard the works of Yahweh,
nor the work of his hands,
he will destroy them
and not rebuild them.
Blessed is Yahweh,
because he has heard the voice of my supplications.
Yahweh is my strength and my shield.
My heart trusts him and I am helped.
So my heart rejoices,
and with my song I will give thanks to him.
Yahweh is their strength,
and he is the refuge for the salvation of his anointed one.
Save your people
and bless your heritage.
Shepherd them also and carry them always.

Numbers 27:15-23

Joshua Succeeds Moses

15 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 16 “Let Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the community 17 who will go out before them and will come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so the community of Yahweh will not be like a flock that does not have a shepherd.” 18 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and place your hand on him. 19 Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and commission him[a] in their sight.[b] 20 You will give to him from your authority so that the entire community of Israel will obey him.[c] 21 He will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will ask for him by the decision[d] of the Urim before Yahweh. On his command[e] they will go out, and at his command[f] they will come in, both he and all of the Israelites[g] with him, the entire community.” 22 Moses did just as Yahweh commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community. 23 And he placed his hands on him and commissioned him[h] just as Yahweh spoke by the hand of Moses.[i]

2 Timothy 2:8-13

A Trustworthy Saying

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David according to my gospel, in connection with which I suffer misfortune to the point of imprisonment[a] as a criminal, but the word of God is not bound. 10 Because of this, I endure all things for the sake of the chosen, in order that they also may obtain salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy:

For if we died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us;
13 if we are unfaithful, he remains faithful—he cannot deny himself[b].[c]
