Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
Psalm 99[a]
99 The Lord reigns!
The nations tremble.[b]
He sits enthroned above the cherubim;[c]
the earth shakes.[d]
2 The Lord is elevated[e] in Zion;
he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name.
He[f] is holy!
4 The king is strong;
he loves justice.[g]
You ensure that legal decisions will be made fairly;[h]
you promote justice and equity in Jacob.
5 Praise[i] the Lord our God.
Worship[j] before his footstool.
He is holy!
6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests;
Samuel was one of those who prayed to him.[k]
They[l] prayed to the Lord and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them from a pillar of cloud;[m]
they obeyed his regulations and the ordinance he gave them.
8 O Lord our God, you answered them.
They found you to be a forgiving God,
but also one who punished their sinful deeds.[n]
9 Praise[o] the Lord our God!
Worship on his holy hill,
for the Lord our God is holy.
The Presence of the Lord
7 [a] Moses took[b] the tent[c] and pitched it outside the camp, at a good distance[d] from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. Anyone[e] seeking[f] the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting that was outside the camp.
8 And when Moses went out[g] to the tent, all the people would get up[h] and stand at the entrance to their tents[i] and watch[j] Moses until he entered the tent.[k] 9 And[l] whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord[m] would speak with Moses.[n] 10 When all the people would see the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people, each one at the entrance of his own tent, would rise and worship.[o] 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face,[p] the way a person speaks[q] to a friend. Then Moses[r] would return to the camp, but his servant, Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the tent.[s]
Diotrephes the Troublemaker
9 I wrote something to the church,[a] but Diotrephes,[b] who loves to be first among them, does not acknowledge us.[c] 10 Therefore, if I come,[d] I will call attention to the deeds he is doing[e]—the bringing of unjustified charges against us with evil words! And not being content with that, he not only refuses to welcome the brothers himself, but hinders the people who want to do so and throws them out of the church! 11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is bad but what is good.[f] The one who does good is of God; the one who does what is bad has not seen God.[g]
Worthy Demetrius
12 Demetrius[h] has been testified to by all, even by the truth itself. We also testify to him,[i] and you know that our testimony is true.
