Revised Common Lectionary (Semicontinuous)
The Ten Commandments
20 Then God spoke all these words, saying,
2 “(A)I am the Lord your God, (B)who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of [a]slavery.
3 “(C)You shall have no other (D)gods [b]before Me.
4 “(E)You shall not make for yourself [c]an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth.
12 “(A)Honor your father and your mother, so that your (B)days may be prolonged on the land which the Lord your God gives you.
13 “(C)You shall not murder.
14 “(D)You shall not commit adultery.
15 “(E)You shall not steal.
16 “(F)You shall not [a]give false testimony against your (G)neighbor.
17 “(H)You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; (I)you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male slave, or his female slave, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
18 And (J)all the people were watching and hearing the [b]thunder and the lightning flashes, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it all, they trembled and stood at a distance. 19 (K)Then they said to Moses, “Speak [c]to us yourself and we will listen; but do not have God speak [d]to us, or we will die!” 20 However, Moses said to the people, “(L)Do not be afraid; for God has come in order (M)to test you, and in order that (N)the fear of Him may [e]remain with you, so that you will not sin.”
The Works and the Word of God.
For the music director. A Psalm of David.
19 The (A)heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their (B)expanse declares the work of His hands.
2 Day to (C)day pours forth speech,
And (D)night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their [a](E)line has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has (F)placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is like a groom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices like a strong person to run his course.
6 Its (G)rising is from [b]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [c]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 (H)The Law of the Lord is [d](I)perfect, (J)restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is (K)sure, making (L)wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are (M)right, (N)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is (O)pure, (P)enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are (Q)true; they are (R)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (S)gold, yes, than much pure gold;
(T)Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, (U)Your servant is warned by them;
In keeping them there is great (V)reward.
12 Who can (W)discern his errors? (X)Acquit me of (Y)hidden faults.
13 Also keep Your servant back (Z)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (AA)rule over me;
Then I will be (AB)innocent,
And I will be blameless of (AC)great wrongdoing.
14 May the words of my mouth and (AD)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
Lord, (AE)my rock and my (AF)Redeemer.
4 although (A)I myself could boast as having confidence even in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he is confident in the flesh, I have more reason: 5 (B)circumcised the eighth day, of the (C)nation of Israel, of the (D)tribe of Benjamin, a (E)Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, (F)a Pharisee; 6 as to zeal, (G)a persecutor of the church; as to the (H)righteousness which is in the Law, found (I)blameless.
7 But (J)whatever things were gain to me, these things I have counted as loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be loss [a]in view of the surpassing value of [b](K)knowing (L)Christ Jesus my Lord, [c]for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having (M)a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, (N)the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 10 that I may (O)know Him and (P)the power of His resurrection and [d](Q)the fellowship of His sufferings, being (R)conformed to His death; 11 if somehow I may (S)attain to the resurrection from the dead.
12 Not that I have already [e](T)grasped it all or have already (U)become perfect, but I press on if I may also (V)take hold of that [f]for which I (W)was even taken hold of by (X)Christ Jesus. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet; but one thing I do: (Y)forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I (Z)press on toward the goal for the prize of the (AA)upward call of God in (AB)Christ Jesus.
Parable of the Landowner
33 “Listen to another parable. (A)There was a [a]landowner who (B)planted a (C)vineyard and put a [b]fence around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and he leased it to [c]vine-growers and (D)went on a journey. 34 And when the [d]harvest time approached, he (E)sent his slaves to the vine-growers to receive his fruit. 35 And the vine-growers took his slaves and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again, he (F)sent other slaves, more than the first; and they did the same things to them. 37 But afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vine-growers saw the son, they said among themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let’s kill him and take possession of his inheritance!’ 39 And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 40 Therefore, when the [e]owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-growers?” 41 They *said to Him, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and (G)lease the vineyard to other vine-growers, who will pay him the fruit in the proper seasons.”
42 Jesus *said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,
‘(H)A stone which the builders rejected,
This has become the [f]chief cornerstone;
This came about from the Lord,
And it is marvelous in our eyes’?
43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a [g]people producing its fruit. 44 And (I)the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and on whomever it falls, it will crush him.”
45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. 46 And although they sought to arrest Him, they (J)feared the crowds, since they considered Him to be a (K)prophet.
