Psalm 105:1-6

The Lord Can Be Trusted

(A) Praise the Lord
    and pray in his name!
Tell everyone
    what he has done.
Sing praises to the Lord!
    Tell about his miracles.
Celebrate and worship
his holy name
    with all your heart.

Trust the Lord
    and his mighty power.
Remember his miracles
and all his wonders
    and his fair decisions.
You belong to the family
    of Abraham, his servant;
you are his chosen ones,
    the descendants of Jacob.

Psalm 105:23-26

23 (A) Jacob and his family
came and settled in Egypt
    as foreigners.
24 (B) They were the Lord's people,
so he let them grow stronger
    than their enemies.
25 They served the Lord,
and he made the Egyptians plan
    hateful things against them.
26 (C) God sent his servant Moses.
He also chose and sent Aaron

Psalm 105:45

45 He did this so that his people
would obey all his laws.
    Shout praises to the Lord!

Exodus 4:1-9

The Lord Gives Great Power to Moses

Moses asked the Lord, “Suppose everyone refuses to listen to my message, and no one believes that you really appeared to me?”

The Lord answered, “What's that in your hand?”

“A walking stick,” Moses replied.

“Throw it down!” the Lord commanded. So Moses threw the stick on the ground. It immediately turned into a snake, and Moses jumped back.

“Pick it up by the tail!” the Lord told him. And when Moses did this, the snake turned back into a walking stick.

“Do this,” the Lord said, “and the Israelites will believe that you have seen me, the God who was worshiped by their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Next, the Lord commanded Moses, “Put your hand inside your shirt.” Moses obeyed, and when he took it out, his hand had turned white as snow—like someone with leprosy.[a]

“Put your hand back inside your shirt,” the Lord told him. Moses did so, and when he took it out again, it was as healthy as the rest of his body.

8-9 Then the Lord said, “If no one believes either of these miracles, take some water from the Nile River and pour it on the ground. The water will immediately turn into blood.”

Matthew 8:14-17

Jesus Heals Many People

(Mark 1.29-34; Luke 4.38-41)

14 Jesus went to the home of Peter, where he found that Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with fever. 15 He took her by the hand, and the fever left her. Then she got up and served Jesus a meal.

16 That evening many people with demons in them were brought to Jesus. And with only a word he forced out the evil spirits and healed everyone who was sick. 17 (A) So God's promise came true, just as the prophet Isaiah had said,

“He healed our diseases
    and made us well.”
