On Pentecost The Spirit Empowers Them To Speak To The Crowd In Their Native Languages
2 And during the day of Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all together at the same place. 2 And suddenly a noise from heaven like of a violent rushing wind took place, and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And dividing[a] tongues as-if of fire appeared to them. And it sat on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues[b] as the Spirit was giving[c] the uttering[d] to them. 5 Now there were Jews dwelling in Jerusalem, reverent men from every nation under heaven. 6 And this sound having taken place, the crowd came together and was confounded[e] because they were each one hearing them speaking in his own language! 7 And they were astonished, and were marveling, saying “Behold, are not all these ones speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it we are each one hearing in our own language in which we were born?— 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites; and the ones dwelling-in Mesopotamia, and Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 and Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya toward Cyrene; and the Romans residing here; 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs; we are hearing them speaking the great[f] things of God in our own tongues”. 12 And they were all astonished and greatly-perplexed, saying one to another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others, while scoffing[g], were saying that “They have been filled with sweet-new-wine”.
Peter Declares To The Crowd That This Event Is God Pouring Out His Promised Spirit
14 And Peter, having stood with the eleven, raised his voice and declared[h] to them, “Men, Jews, and all the ones dwelling-in Jerusalem: let this be known to you, and pay-attention-to my words. 15 For these ones are not drunk, as you are assuming[i]. For it is the third[j] hour of the day. 16 But this is the thing having been spoken through the prophet Joel [in Joel 2:28-32]: 17 ‘And it shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour-out from[k] My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your older men will dream with dreams. 18 And[l] indeed upon My male-slaves and upon My female-slaves I will pour-out from My Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. 19 And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth below— blood, and fire and a vapor of smoke. 20 The sun will be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious[m] day of the Lord comes. 21 And it shall be that everyone who calls-upon the name of the Lord will be saved’.
3 Therefore I make-known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God is saying “Jesus is[a] accursed”. And no one is able to say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are differences[b] of gifts[c], but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of ministries[d], and the same Lord. 6 And there are differences of things-worked[e], but the same God working all things in all persons. 7 And the manifestation[f] of [g] the Spirit is given to each one for our benefit. 8 For to one a word[h] of [i] wisdom is given through the Spirit; and to another, a word of knowledge according-to[j] the same Spirit; 9 to a different one, faith by the same Spirit; and to another, gifts of [k] healings by the one Spirit; 10 and to another, things-worked[l] by miracles; and to another, prophecy[m]; and to another, discernments[n] of spirits; to a different one, kinds of tongues[o]; and to another, interpretation[p] of tongues. 11 But the one and the same Spirit works[q] all these things, distributing to each one individually[r], just as He wills[s].
For The Body of Christ Is Like The Human Body
12 For just as the [human] body is one [body]; and it has many body-parts; and all the body-parts of the [human] body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.[t]
It Is One Body With One Spirit
13 For indeed with[u] one Spirit, we all were baptized into one body[v]— whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free. And we all were given one Spirit to drink.

That Evening, Jesus Meets Ten of The Disciples And Says, Receive The Holy Spirit
19 Then— being evening on that first[a] day of the week, and the doors having been locked where the disciples were because of the fear of the Jews— Jesus came and stood in their midst. And He says to them, “Peace to you”. 20 And having said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples rejoiced, having seen the Lord. 21 Then Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you. Just as the Father has sent Me forth, I also am sending you”. 22 And having said this, He breathed-on[b] them. And He says to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they have been forgiven for them. If you retain[c] the sins of any, they have been retained”.
On The Last Day Jesus Said, Come To Me. The Crowd Remained Divided Over Him
37 Now on the last day, the great day of the Feast, Jesus was standing there. And He cried-out, saying, “If anyone is thirsting, let him come to Me and drink. 38 The one believing in Me, just as the Scripture said— Rivers of living water will flow from his[a] belly”. 39 Now He said this concerning the Spirit, Whom the ones having believed in Him were going to receive. For the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
