4 既然耶稣在肉体上遭受了痛苦，那么你们就应该用耶稣的意志去武装自己。因为在肉体上受难的人已跟罪恶绝缘了， 2 以便在尘世余下的光阴里不再顺从人类肉体的欲望，而是去执行上帝的意旨。 3 过去你们把很多的光阴浪费在异教徒喜好的事情上了，你们沉湎于声色、纵欲，酗酒、淫佚的宴乐、狂饮和可恶的偶像崇拜之中。 4 现在，当你们不再与他们同流合污，过那种放荡的生活了，他们感到很惊讶，于是便诋毁你们。 5 这些人必须就他们的行为向审判活人和死人的基督作出交待。 6 为此，福音传给死人，因为他们也要像所有的人一样，为他们在世时所做的事情受到审判。福音传给了他们，以便他们在灵里能够像上帝那样生活。
