Haggai 1:15-2:9

15 This took place on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month of King Darius’ second year.[a]

The Glory to Come

On the twenty-first day of the seventh month,[b] the Lord’s message came through[c] the prophet Haggai again: “Ask the following questions to[d] Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, the high priest Joshua son of Jehozadak,[e] and the remnant of the people: ‘Who among you survivors saw the former splendor of this temple?[f] How does it look to you now? Isn’t it nothing by comparison?’ Even so, take heart, Zerubbabel,” decrees the Lord. “Take heart, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And take heart all you citizens of the land,”[g] decrees the Lord, “and begin to work. For I am with you,” decrees the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “Do not fear, because I made a promise to your ancestors when they left Egypt, and my Spirit[h] even now testifies to you.”[i] Moreover, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has said: “In just a little while[j] I will once again shake the sky[k] and the earth, the sea and the dry ground. I will also shake up all the nations, and they[l] will offer their treasures;[m] then I will fill this temple with glory.” So the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has said. “The silver and gold will be mine,” decrees the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “The future splendor of this temple will be greater than that of former times,”[n] the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has declared. “And in this place I will give peace,” decrees the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.[o]

Psalm 145:1-5

Psalm 145[a]

A psalm of praise; by David.

145 I will extol you, my God, O King.
I will praise your name continually.[b]
Every day I will praise you.
I will praise your name continually.[c]
The Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise.
No one can fathom his greatness.[d]
One generation will praise your deeds to another,
and tell about your mighty acts.[e]
I will focus on your honor and majestic splendor,
and your amazing deeds.[f]

Psalm 145:17-21

17 The Lord is just in all his actions,[a]
and exhibits love in all he does.[b]
18 The Lord is near all who cry out to him,
all who cry out to him sincerely.[c]
19 He satisfies the desire[d] of his loyal followers;[e]
he hears their cry for help and delivers them.
20 The Lord protects all those who love him,
but he destroys all the wicked.
21 My mouth will praise the Lord.[f]
Let all who live[g] praise his holy name forever.

Psalm 98

Psalm 98[a]

A psalm.

98 Sing to the Lord a new song,[b]
for he performs[c] amazing deeds.
His right hand and his mighty arm
accomplish deliverance.[d]
The Lord demonstrates his power to deliver;[e]
in the sight of the nations he reveals his justice.
He remains loyal and faithful to the family of Israel.[f]
All the ends of the earth see our God deliver us.[g]
Shout out praises to the Lord, all the earth.
Break out in a joyful shout and sing!
Sing to the Lord accompanied by a harp,
accompanied by a harp and the sound of music.
With trumpets and the blaring of the ram’s horn,
shout out praises before the king, the Lord.
Let the sea and everything in it shout,
along with the world and those who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands!
Let the mountains sing in unison
before the Lord.
For he comes to judge the earth.
He judges the world fairly,[h]
and the nations in a just manner.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-5

The Day of the Lord

Now regarding the arrival[a] of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to be with him,[b] we ask you, brothers and sisters,[c] not to be easily[d] shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us,[e] to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not arrive until the rebellion comes[f] and the man of lawlessness[g] is revealed, the son of destruction.[h] He[i] opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat[j] in God’s temple, displaying himself as God.[k] Surely you recall[l] that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.

2 Thessalonians 2:13-17

Call to Stand Firm

13 But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters[a] loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning[b] for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 He called you to this salvation[c] through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.[d] 15 Therefore, brothers and sisters,[e] stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.[f] 16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you[g] in every good thing you do or say.[h]

Luke 20:27-38

Marriage and the Resurrection

27 Now some Sadducees[a] (who contend that there is no resurrection)[b] came to him. 28 They asked him,[c] “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies leaving a wife but no children, that man[d] must marry[e] the widow and father children[f] for his brother.[g] 29 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman[h] and died without children. 30 The second[i] 31 and then the third married her, and in this same way all seven died, leaving no children. 32 Finally the woman died too. 33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be?[j] For all seven had married her.”[k]

34 So[l] Jesus said to them, “The people of this age[m] marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are regarded as worthy to share in[n] that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.[o] 36 In fact, they can no longer die, because they are equal to angels[p] and are sons of God, since they are[q] sons[r] of the resurrection. 37 But even Moses revealed that the dead are raised[s] in the passage about the bush,[t] where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.[u] 38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living,[v] for all live before him.”[w]
