Isaiah 11:1-9

11 1 Christ born of the root of Jesse. 2 His virtues and kingdom. 6 The fruits of the Gospel. 10 The calling of the Gentiles.

But there shall come a [a]rod forth of the stock of Jesse, and a grass shall grow out of his roots.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord,

And shall make him prudent in the fear of the Lord: for he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove by the hearing of his ears.

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and with equity shall he reprove for the meek of the earth: and he shall [b]smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

And justice shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

The [c]wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie with the kid, and the calf, and the lion, and the fat beast together, and a little child shall lead them.

And the cow and the bear shall feed: their young ones shall lie together: and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock.

And the sucking child shall play upon the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand upon the cockatrice hole.

Then shall none hurt nor destroy in all the mountain of mine holiness: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as [d]the waters that cover the sea.

Micah 4:8-13

And thou, O [a]tower of the flock, the stronghold of the daughter Zion, unto thee shall it come, even [b]the first dominion, and kingdom shall come to the daughter Jerusalem.

Now why dost thou cry out with lamentation? is [c]there no king in thee? is thy counselor perished? for sorrow hath taken thee, as a woman in travail.

10 Sorrow and mourn, O daughter Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth of the city, and dwell in the field, and shalt go into Babel, but there shalt thou be delivered: there the Lord shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

11 Now also many nations are gathered against thee, saying, Zion shall be condemned, and our eye shall look upon Zion.

12 But they [d]know not the thoughts of the Lord: they understand not his counsel, for he shall gather them as the sheaves in the barn.

13 Arise and thresh, [e]O daughter Zion: for I will make thine horn iron, and I will make thine hooves brass, and thou shalt break in pieces many people: and I will consecrate their riches unto the Lord: and their substance unto the ruler of the whole world.

Luke 7:31-35

31 (A)[a]And the Lord said, Whereunto shall I liken the men of this generation? and what thing are they like unto?

32 They are like unto little children sitting in the marketplace, and crying one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced: we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

33 For John Baptist came neither eating bread, nor drinking wine: and ye say, He hath the devil.

34 The Son of man is come, and eateth, and drinketh: and ye say, Behold, a man which is a glutton, and a drinker of wine, a friend of Publicans and sinners:

35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.
