Version
Luke 1:68-79

68 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
    for He has visited and redeemed His people,
69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us
    in the house of His servant David,
70 as He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets of long ago,
71 that we should be saved from our enemies
    and from the hand of all who hate us,
72 to perform the mercy promised to our fathers
    and to remember His holy covenant,
73     the oath which He swore to our father Abraham,
74 to grant us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies,
    might serve Him without fear,
75     in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our lives.

76 “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest;
    for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
77 to give knowledge of salvation to His people
    by the remission of their sins,
78 through the tender mercy of our God,
    whereby the sunrise from on high has visited us;
79 to give light to those who sit in darkness
    and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Malachi 4

The Great Day of the Lord

Surely the day is coming, burning like an oven; all the proud, yes, all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming will burn them up, says the Lord of Hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. You will go out and grow up like calves from the stall. And you will tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I do this, says the Lord of Hosts.

Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, the statutes and judgments which I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

See, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreaded day of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.

Luke 9:1-6

The Mission of the Twelve Apostles(A)

Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey: no staff, no bag, no bread, no money. And do not take two tunics apiece. Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. Whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
