Psalm 126

126 1 This Psalm was made after the return of the people from Babylon, and showeth that the means of their deliverance was wonderful after the seventy years of captivity forspoken by Jeremiah, in Jer. 25:12 and 29:10.

A song of degrees, or Psalm of David.

When the Lord brought again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that [a]dream.

Then was our mouth [b]filled with laughter, and our tongue with joy: then said they among the [c]heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.

The Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we rejoice.

O Lord, bring again our captivity, as the [d]rivers in the South.

They that sow in tears, shall reap in joy.

They went weeping, and carried [e]precious seed: but they shall return with joy, and bring their sheaves.

Jeremiah 26:12-24

12 Then spake Jeremiah unto all the Princes and to all the people, saying, The Lord hath [a]sent me to prophesy against this House and against this city all the things that ye have heard.

13 Therefore now amend your ways, and your works, and hear the voice of the Lord your God, that the Lord may repent him of the plague, that he hath pronounced against you.

14 As for me, behold, I am in your hands: do with me as ye think good and right:

15 But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the Lord hath sent me unto you, to speak all these words in your ears.

16 Then said the Princes and all the people unto the Priests, and to the Prophets, This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken unto us in the Name of the Lord our God.

17 ¶ Then rose up certain of the Elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

18 Micah the Morashite (A)prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall be an heap, and the mountain of the [b]house shall be as the high places of the forest.

19 Did Hezekiah King of Judah, and all Judah put him to death? did he not fear the Lord, and prayed before the Lord, and the Lord repented him of the [c]plague, that he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

20 And there was also a man that prophesied in the Name of the Lord, one Urijah the son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath Jearim, who prophesied against this city, and against this land, according to all the words of Jeremiah.

21 Now when Jehoiakim the king with all his men of power, and all the princes heard his words, the King sought to slay him. But when Urijah heard it, he was afraid and fled, and went into Egypt.

22 Then Jehoiakim the king [d]sent men into Egypt, even Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain with him into Egypt.

23 And they fetched Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king, who slew him with the sword, and [e]cast his dead body into the graves of the children of the people.

24 But the hand of Ahikam [f]the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

Hebrews 7:11-22

11 [a]If therefore [b]perfection had been by the Priesthood of the Levites (for under it the Law was established to the people) what needed it furthermore, that another Priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not to be called after the order of Aaron?

12 [c]For if the Priesthood be changed, then of necessity must there be a change of the [d]Law.

13 For he of whom these things are spoken, pertaineth unto another tribe, whereof no man [e]served at the altar.

14 For it is evident, that our Lord sprung out of Judah, concerning the which tribe Moses spake nothing, touching the Priesthood.

15 [f]And it is yet a more evident thing, because that after the similitude of Melchizedek, there is risen up another Priest,

16 [g]Which is not made Priest after the [h]Law of the carnal commandment, but after the power of the endless life.

17 For he testifieth thus, (A)Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.

18 [i]For the [j]commandment that went afore, is disannulled, because of the weakness thereof, and unprofitableness.

19 For the Law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope made perfect, whereby we draw near unto God.

20 [k]And forasmuch as it is not without an oath (for these are made Priests without an oath:

21 But this is made with an oath by him that said unto him, (B)The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.)

22 By so much is Jesus made a surety of a better Testament.
